“ Without music, life would be a mistake. Similar habits? What was similar? It took another blink of the eyes for Mashiro to realize that she was pulling at her hair again. The pianist looked down to her hands and fiddled with the snow-white strands a little longer before looking back to Ellie, an embarrassed expression barely breaking through Mashiro's attempts to keep calm. To divert her attention, Mashiro started to eat a bit more from her soup, but did not get past more than a few spoonfuls before Ellie began to question Misha's availability. "<Ah...sorry...I did forget, she is Student Council Vice President...so Misha-nee may be busy...not that she would not want to help, but...>" Mashiro said, suppressing an embarrassed groan. It wasn't as if she was trying to pawn off any responsibility to her family, but rather feeling unconfident enough to take on the task on her own. "<A-anyways...I only recommended her since I think she is a lot better at teaching things than I am. She taught me English after all! Or rather...did a lot better than my teachers...>" Mashiro ate a few more spoonfuls of her soup to drown her embarrassment, only to have realization hit her again. Even through she was speaking in English, she still was using honorifics. "<Ah...well, even though I call her Misha-nee, she's actually my cousin,>" Mashiro said, trying to explain herself. "<One of the eldest in my family, so we do rely on her a lot. My brother and I, and a few of our other cousins, we all grew up together in Tokyo.>" Mashiro continued to eat at her soup bit by bit out of her feeling of embarrassment and worry, found that she had quickly finished her bowl. She looked up to Ellie again, struggling to find another topic to talk about. MADE BY KAIZU OF WW AND TWF

Ah dang, it seems that she's further embarrassed her tablemate. Though it's kinda cute how she tries to hide it by eatin' ~, Ellie thinks to herself. She raises a hand up to cover her mouth, attempting to hide her amusement. She really doesn't want to upset Mashiro any further than she's already done. Instead, she puts on a thoughtful frown when she hears that Misha seems to be a rather busy individual. Contemplating the situation, Ellie continues to eat her own soup. As she does so, she glances up on occasion, quietly watching the flustered girl on the other side of the table. She's worked her way through a good chunk of the bowl before she speaks again. "<So Misha's your cousin?>" Setting her spoon on the now empty bread plate, she pushes her soup to the side and leans forward. Clasping her hands together, she directs her friendly gaze towards Mashiro. A smile tugs the corners of her lips up. "<It's good to be close to family. I come from a pretty big one myself.>" Shaking her head, she can't help the soft laugh that escapes her at the thought of the ranch. "<A very big one, if I'm bein' completely honest.>" Shrugging her shoulders, she nods her head at Mashiro. "<Hmm... from the sounds of it, your cousin seems have quite a bit on her plate. I really don't want to give her even more work to do.>" At her motion, some of her hair spills over her left shoulder and over her face. Absently, she pulls back the hair around her face and tucks it behind her left ear. The motion is smooth and practiced. It's obvious she does it a lot.
Ellie nervously taps the table with a finger. She's imposed on the other girl so much already. But she really does enjoy Mashiro's company. And she wants to know a bit more about the pale, easily flustered girl sitting before her. It'd be nice it they could become friends. With this thought in mind, she continues her line of inquiry. "<So, I was wonderin'... if you're not too busy, that is... would you mind bein' the one to help me out?>", she asks, her words soft and hopeful. "<I already know you, for starters. And I find your company pleasant.>" Here she tilts her head slightly to the right, a warm smile brightening her eyes. "<Quite pleasant, actually.>" Gesturing to herself, she adds, "<Of course, if there's any subjects you struggle with, I'd be glad to help. If I know it, that is. Besides, I bet you're a great teacher! You've already got the helpful part down. You just gotta give it a try, is all.>" Her expression one of entreaty, she asks again, "<Would you help me?>" She really hopes Mashiro says yes.

“ Without music, life would be a mistake. Why was it that Mashiro could easily talk to a customer in her family's shop versus over a table? Perhaps it was that the customer would eventually go on their own way, or that Mashiro always had an excuse to disappear back into the kitchen or storeroom. In either case, Mashiro knew that the conversation would end shortly, and if not, she had an easy way out. She really did enjoy talking to Ellie, but there was that subtle pressure to try and keep the conversation. Thankfully, Ellie seeme to be more than happy to pick up the slack. So Ellie had a big family too. Mashiro nodded in acknowledgement, but she wondered if that meant Ellie had a lot of siblings, or if she included her cousins the way that Mashiro would whenever the pianist talked about her family. For an idle moment, Mashiro was distracted by the movement of Ellie's hair, frowning and tilting her head in minor curiosity. It reminded her of Chiri, her twin sister, who let her hair grow out absurdly long. Of course, Ellie would ask again if Mashiro would help her. The pianist, grit her teeth slightly and tugged at her long front bangs again. It wasn't if she couldn't do it; she most certainly could. But Misha was better. At everything. At least that was what Mashiro felt. Mashiro knew she had the skills, but...did she really deserve them? There was another pause as the musican looked down into her empty bowl of soup in contemplation. "...ah...eto..." Was the only words that she could force out at first, reverting to Japanese for a moment. "<Ah...if you really believe in me...then okay.>" Mashiro finally said, looking up again, her dark crimson eyes meeting Ellie's pale green ones. MADE BY KAIZU OF WW AND TWF

It's obvious to Ellie that Mashiro is conflicted. She watches patiently as the other girl peers down into her obviously empty bowl. She's not sure why Mashiro is hesitating, but if the other girl refuses her request, she won't push it any further. Ellie doesn't want to seem like she's pressuring her to do it after all. Especially since she doesn't seem too keen on the idea of it. She could always try and find someone else to tutor her, after all. But she really does feel that Mashiro would be a great person to work with. Here's ta hopin'...During her wait, Ellie decides to finish off her own bowl of soup. Just as she's scraping the last spoonful out, Mashiro murmurs a soft assent to her request. Breaking out into a grin, she sets her spoon down into her bowl and leans forward. Pale greens sparkling, she returns the other girl's unsure gaze with her ecstatic one.
"<Truly? You'll do it?>" Giving a soft clap of her hands, she can't help the low laugh of delight that escapes her. "<Fantastic! Thank you!>" she exclaims, her voice a bit louder than usual in her happiness. Expression turning bashful she lowers her voice and adds, "<I was honestly wonderin' what I was gonna do. 'Cause I really am strugglin' in some of the classes.>"
Leaning back in her chair, Ellie pops the last spoonful of soup into her mouth. Satisfaction and contentment fills her. Her belly's chock-full of a wonderful and warm meal, courtesy of this delightful restaurant. She's out of the cold and quite comfortable. But to top it all off, she's met, and is currently in the company of, a lovely girl who's been nothing but good to her. So far, this has been a great day!
Suddenly, from her coat pocket, the quiet melody of a music box starts playing. Giving a soft "<Oh!>", Ellie turns and reaches into the pocket and pulls out a pastel green smart phone. Quickly unlocking the screen, she dismisses the alarm. Locking the screen again, she places her phone on the table. Reaching into an inner coat pocket, she pulls out a small round container roughly the size of a pocket watch, but a bit thicker. The smooth copper of the metal gleams dully in the restaurant light.
Flashing Mashiro a wry smile, she says, "<Almost forgot.>"
Pressing a button on the side of the container, a lid pops open. On the inside is a gray plastic divider, split three ways in the shape of a peace sign. In each section are a few pills of varying sizes and colors. Fishing out two of the pills, Ellie closes the pill box and slides it back into the coat pocket she'd retrieved it from. Taking hold of her glass of water, she quickly and efficiently downs them. It's obvious that she's done this kind of thing many times before.
Sighing softly, Ellie shakes her head. "<Sometimes, time just gets away from me.>" Smiling at Mashiro, she quirks an eyebrow and asks, her voice somewhat teasing,
"<You think you got enough room for some dessert? My treat ~ >"

“ Without music, life would be a mistake. Mashiro did her best to smile, going back to tugging on her bangs as she nodded once more confirm that she was still willing to help Ellie. That Ellie was struggling in her classes, or at least in one of them, did make the pianist feel a bit sad. But there wasn't a lot of time for contempation as the sound of a music box floated into Mashiro's ears and grabbing her attentin. Unconciously, Mashiro started to sway with the melody as she tried to figure out where it was coming from, only to have the answer come from the phone that Ellie pulled out. Curious, the pianist tilted her head and frowned. It was an alarm of soem sort, but for what? Medicine? With the mystery solved, Mashiro sat up straight, but she still frowned. She was no stranger to such medical regimens and knew better than to let her natural curiousity lead her one. Mashiro couldn't make heads or tails of the contents of the case and simply counted her blessings that she did not need to take medicines for her condition, but it still added to the lingering feeling of sorrow she was feeling. Yet, Ellie seemed to take it all in stride, so Mashiro resolved herself to meet Ellie's smile. At least...until hearing her proposition. "<A-ah...dessert?>" Mashiro echoed, suddenly looking worried. "<A-ah...I am afraid that...>" She was too full for dessert, at least at the moment. But it would be rude to turn down hospitality, so the muscian attempted to pivot. "<Ah...how about we take it home to the dorms?"> Mashiro suggested, turning her head to look out the windows. The winter season called for shorter days, and though it was only mid-afternoon the sun was setting fast. "<Ah...I think that can be a plan. Get something and take it home before the sun sets on us.>" Crimson shifted their gaze over to the glass countertop where a bevy of pastries, cakes, and tarts were sitting enticingly. Mashiro could go for that strawberry cheesecake again... MADE BY KAIZU OF WW AND TWF

Glancing out the window, Ellie makes note that it does seem a bit darker than it had been since they entered the restaurant. Nodding at Mashiro's words, she gives a small smile.
"<I forget how short the days are here. Especially durin' the colder months.>" She'd been planning to walk around the town a bit after she ate, but now that she's full and warm, the prospect of doing so seems much less enticing. That wind had been rather piercing and it's only going to get colder the later in the day it gets. So when Mashiro suggests heading back to the dorms, she's in no way against the idea.
"<Headin' to the dorms sounds like a good plan to me! That'll give us time to make room for dessert, and our destination is guaranteed to be a warm one.>"
When Mashiro directs her gaze away, Ellie turns to look where the other girl is. Near the entrance, where they'd come in, is a glass countertop. Many pastries, cakes and other types of baked goodies are displayed across its surface. Smiling, for it seems that Mashiro is willing to accept her offer of dessert, Ellie glances sideways at her pale companion.
"<There seems to be quite a few choices>" Ellie murmurs, her tone thoughtful. Gesturing at the display, she asks, "<So, which dessert would you recommend? Havin' been here before, I bet you know the best ones to get.>"
The smile she directs Mashiro's way is an encouraging one.

“ Without music, life would be a mistake. Internally, Mashiro breathed a sigh of relief that Ellie was amenable to taking the dessert home. A good walk would help settle her stomach, and while Mashiro seemed to be blessed with one of the magical metabolisms that prevented one from gaining weight, the muscian would still feel guilty eating so much, compounded by the fact her family was absolutely surrounded by sweets. And for recommending a dessert? Mashiro always, _always_ went for the strawberry cheesecake. Always. And it wasn't just a cheesecake with a stawberry on top. No, it was a cheesecake made with ground up strawberry and even small chunks of strawberries in them. But she wasn't the only one in her family who was an eager patron. Without much time to contemplate, Mashiro looked back to Ellie, still playing with her hair. Even though the American was smiling at her encouragingly, it was hard not to feel intimidated and pressured to meet that outgoing energy. "<Ah...personally, I would recommend the strawberry cheesecake. It is... a cheesecake made with strawberries inside it, not just as a topping.>" Mashiro explained ommiting the fact that it was the only thing she had actually tasted. "<But...from my cousins, they would recommend the cream puffs and the chocolate coronets as well.>" The pianist gave another glance to the countertop and back to Ellie. "<Ah...that said...we can go take a look up close if you want. I know they do change up the offerings every now and then. Ah...and we can leave the bowls.>" Carefully, Mashiro got out of her seat, as if moving any faster risked damaging the table and the chair. Her footsteps were similarly ghostly in how quiet they were as Mashiro approached the class countertop, kneeling to take a good look at what was available. As usual, the strawberry cheesecake was present, along with the chocolate coronets and the cream puffs as Mashiro mentioned earlier, wedged between a wide variety of pastries, cookies, tarts, and minature cakes. There were labels in Japanese lettering, be it katakana or kanji as appropriate, and in French. MADE BY KAIZU OF WW AND TWF

"<The cheesecake, eh?>" Ellie murmurs softly to herself. She's always had a fondness for baked goods. And cheesecake is one of her top choice in that regard. Especially the one that Mashiro is describing. Nodding her head at the other's suggestion to get a closer look, Ellie rises from her seat. As she does so, she pushes her hair out of her face. Using both hands, she pulls it away and then lets it drop. It spills down her her back in a frizzy, crackly cascade.
As they move over to the counter, Ellie can't help but admire how Mashiro carries herself. She's so graceful, she thinks to herself, It almost seems as if she's floating.
They reach the counter and Ellie leans down next to the other girl. Peering into the glass case, she spots the chocolate coronets and the cream puffs that Mashiro had mentioned.
"<Oh ~ Those do look good!>", she says quietly, pointing out the delectable treats. Leaning forward even farther, Ellie sweeps her gaze across the sweets. Unnoticed by her, a thoughtful hum escapes from her as she tries to decide on what she wants. It's a simple yet melodic tune.
Turning to Mashiro, she smiles, "<There's so much here that looks so good! Makes it hard to decide!>" She twirls her hair as she says this, her pale greens once again returning to their search.
Eyes falling on the aforementioned cheese cake, though, ends her indecision. "<Ah, but that cheesecake sure does look like a winner! And you recommend it ~ So, I think I'll get me one of those.>"
Nodding her head decisively, she returns her attention to Mashiro and asks, "<You gettin' a cheesecake too?>"

“ Without music, life would be a mistake. The redness of Mashiro's eyes and the bold redness of the dessert she eyed was coincidental, but even with all the other delectable options, Mashiro was in the mood for strawberries. There was no need to deliberate further, and so the pianist took a step back to give Ellie enough room. Through the thrum of the refridgerated glass, the musician could hear a melody, and in curiousity she tilted her head to discover it was coming from Ellie herself. Slowly, gracefully, Mashiro started to shift her weight as her ears picked up more of the melody and then the rythm. Instinctually, she before to space out and analyize it. The phrases, the movements, the tempo, anything that could be learned. After all the tension of of eating with someone she had met nary an hour ago, it was nice to let go and listen to music. But that melody was cut short by Ellie's voice, bringing Mashiro back to earth. So Ellie was also going to get the strawberry cheesecake as well? That came as a surprise, and Mashiro tilted her head with a frown. Was it because of her recommendation? Or just a fan of cheesecake and strawberries. It was probably moot to ask, so Mashiro ended up nodding to confirm their shared goal. With those same ghostly, steps, Mashiro stepped towards the counter. She gestured to the girl behind the counter who was watching them the entire time, who obliged their request, taking two pristine slices out of the cheesecake and immaculately boxing each slice in white boxes with the name "Reve Lucide" written in delicate silver lettering. Mashiro paid for her slice, bowing slightly as she took her box and handling it as if it would shatter in her hands if she wasn't careful. "<Ah, ready to go when you are, Ellie-san>" Mashiro said. She smiled a little, strangely relieved to be on the move again. MADE BY KAIZU OF WW AND TWF

During her perusal of the tasty treats, Ellie had snuck a few quick peeks at Mashiro. She can't help but feel compelled to, for the other girl is very eye-catching. The grace with which she holds herself is something that she's not come across all that often in her life. All in all, she finds the pale girl rather fascinating. So she'd noticed how Mashiro's movement had subtly changed. More of a swaying in place, instead of the steady poise she'd had previously. It had taken her a moment, but she'd come to the realization that it was in time to her humming. Which she'd not been aware that she was doing, until she'd seen Mashiro shifting. Interestin'! she'd thought to herself, before breaking off her song and declaring her choice.
Mashiro nods her head and rises up in a fluid motion. She orders both cakes for them. Ellie finds her eyes drawn to the packaging of their cakes. The care and precision that the girl behind the counter puts into it is surprising. Do all places in Japan put such care into things? she wonders. She's caught up in thought, her left hand rising to rest lightly against her chin. Staring at the pristine white boxes, she doesn't notice Mashiro paying for her cake until it's too late.
Ellie blinks in surprise when Mashiro's hands slip into her field of vision as she reaches forward and takes hold of her box.
"<Wha...? Ready to go?>" she repeats in confusion. Gaze following Mashiro's hands, she realizes that the other girl has already paid for her cake. Dang it all, she beat me to it! Hurriedly, she pulls out her wallet and pays for her own cake. Thanking the girl behind the counter, she picks up her own box and turns back to Mashiro.
Raising an eyebrow, she says, her tone teasing, "<Ya know, I was plannin' on gettn' that for ya. Now I gotta figure on another way to thank you for helpin' me out.>" Shaking her head in mock regret, she can't help the small smile that pulls at her lips. She's not all that upset about it, after all. She'll think of something else. Nodding towards the table, she continues, "<I gotta get geared back up, though.>"
Returning to the table, she places her box down and picks up her scarf. She winds the it around her neck, making sure that her fluffy hair falls down her back and stays out of her eyes. Then she picks up her gloves and slides them on. Snagging her jacket, she shrugs into it, being careful that the majority of her hair stays inside the coat. Lastly, she fishes the knit hat out of her pocket and pulls it over hear head. Her movements are smooth and calculated. It's obvious that she's making sure that as much of her is covered as possible. In fact, the only areas of skin visible now are basically her eyes and lower face. Which can easily be hidden behind the scarf if needed.
Shifting her hair about her face and neck for the maximum coverage and warmth, she finally feels satisfied with her get-up. Carefully picking up her box in her gloved hands, she turns to Mashiro, her pale greens twinkling.
"<Okay, now I'm ready ~ >"

“ Without music, life would be a mistake. Confused, Mashiro tilted her head again. Why would Ellie have an interest in paying for Mashiro's slice of cake? Was it for agreeing to help with teaching Ellie Japanese? It felt strange to be 'paid' in that manner, if not outright uncomfortable. It reminded the musician too much of her work back in her family's shop for some strange reason, but Mashiro was able to nod in acknowledgement. With the usual resting frown on her face, Mashiro watched Ellie put on her winter clothing. The way she was all covered it was familiar, as if trying to prevent the sun from reaching her. Did she also have similar skin issues? Or more simply...it really was just poor tolerance for the cold. Mashiro closed her eyes and took a deep breath. She was somehow getting quickly exhausted and her trains of thought were starting to travel to strange tangents. Crimson eyes opened again and looked to Ellie's sparkling eyes. Such energy was rather enviable. With a nod, Mashiro was able to smile a little as she opened the door to let themselves out. A brisk chill greeted them as they left the warm confines of the cafe. With the approaching night, the temperature had only dropped lower. Even with a cake in hand, Mashiro had the requisite agility to run quickly and minimize the time in the cold. But without any clue on how well Ellie would run, Mashiro opted to try and keep a steady walk instead. As they proceeded down the road, Mashiro struggled to find another subject to talk about and her mind started to wander again. Were they "friends" now? Mashiro wasn't sure, beyond the fact that she knew she needed more friends. Most of her friends in middle school were through her brother and cousins, and they just...happened to be there. The facade Mashiro held slipped a little as her snow white brows furrowed a bit, looking over to Ellie silently to make sure she was still okay. MADE BY KAIZU OF WW AND TWF

At the blast of cold air, Ellie can't help the shiver that worms it's way down her spine. Clutching the cake box firmly, she braces herself and steps outside. Mashiro starts heading down the sidewalk, her stride long and sure. Having paused briefly when the chill had hit her, Ellie hurries a bit to catch up with shorter girl. Falling into stride at Mashiro's left, she keeps careful hold of the cake box. Glancing sideways at Mashiro, she notices the furrowed brow. Must be thinkin' real hard about somethin'... Not wanting to be rude and interrupt the other girl, Ellie returns her attention to the front. Wonder what shes thinkin' 'bout, though.
Silence stretches between them, but Ellie's not bothered by it. Quietly, she watches the people of the city bustle about, despite the winter weather. There's more people out and about than she'd expect to be on a cold evening such as this. But it's still interesting to see. Especially since she's much more accustomed to the slower pace of country living.
As they continue their brisk pace down the sidewalk, she can feel the heat of her breath escaping her. Taking in a deep breath, she tilts her head back and then lets it out in a slow stream. It puffs out in a pale fog, drifting upward, and then swirling away as she moves through it. A small smile takes hold of her at the simple act.
Giving another glance to the side, Ellie finds her eyes meeting those of her companion's. Smile widening a bit, she nods her head in the direction of the school.
"<How 'bout we jog the rest of the way there?>" she suggests. "<It's awful cold out right now, and a little jog'll heat us right up. Not to mention, we'd get there faster ~>"
Looking down at her cake, she adds, "<Ah, but not too fast. Don't wanna mess up the cake, or accidentally drop it.>"
Returning her gaze back to Mashiro, her smile turns into an encouraging grin.
"<What say you? Wanna do it?>"
