Nao would have been lying if she'd said she wasn't feeling some trepidation about today's outing, especially since she was going to be meeting Misha. All sorts of things had been contributing to a growing sense of uncertainty where it came to doing things with Misha. Their last meeting over tea hadn't ended all that comfortably for the brunette, but she was certainly willing to try again and see if she could overcome the odd atmosphere somehow. Upon reflecting upon the final portion of their last rendezvous she'd realized things had felt more formal and a bit stiff even. As if trying on the other outfits was a professional arrangement that both parties were committed to completing but had no real personal attachment to. Add to that her own uncertain feelings about Misha herself - feeling uncertain what to say, yet knowing that she felt quite at ease in the company of the Russian - and it'd been hard to get herself to accept this invitation. Anytime she'd thought of Misha since then she'd remembered how nice it felt, how classy and affectionate things felt with Misha.. and then also a fear that those times were either gone or in danger of disappearing if she screwed today up.
Probably for the best that they were meeting in town rather than at the school itself. Heading down on her own had allowed Nao's jumbled mind some time to unravel itself and piece things together a bit. Granted her personal experience in dealing with things like this wasn't very deep so she'd had to rely on what she knew best - yuri fiction. This wasn't yuri itself, so far as she knew, but it might help her sort things out a bit. What would a character do in this situation? Well, make this a good day for both of them and avoid bringing anything up immediately that would sour the mood. Watch the other girl for signs of being upset, disinterested or confused and do your best to address them as they happened. Don't confront her, that was the important part.. and don't reach for her hand until at least after your lunch. Before then would simply not fit into the daily schedule and the warmth of the food you ate had to warm the mood too!
With that being the case she waited near a bus stop next to a shop, trying to keep warm as she waited for the Russian's arrival. Nao had even dressed in more wintry clothes for today but wasn't sure how much good they were doing. Even tights under her tan shorts, lined winter boots, pink sweater and white knit cap weren't doing much to keep out all of the chill. Wearing a hat in itself was a little odd since she hadn't gotten her ponytail to fit under it; instead of the usual style she had her hair down today, with a trio of small braids each tied off at the end with one of the ribbons Misha had loaned her. Maybe not the most amazing look, but Nao had thought it worked okay.
"Okay, Nao, don't screw it up.. make her comfortable today," she thought aloud while she looked around for signs of Misha.

isha had no lack of people that she could more or less talk to in Fukui, but the list narrowed down rapidly once Misha wanted to talk more and more about personal matters. But outside of family, Misha had only one person who she was able to walk around town with: Nao Kaneshiro. And today was one, or rather, the first, time she would be out and about in the city with company. Today's mission was to scout the riverside shopping district for places to get new attire for the year, though mainly for Nao. Winter's firm grasp called for something that would keep her warm and protected from the wind. While the Russian could resist the cold better than most of her family, she still opted for a cream-colored turtleneck with a long tartan-patterned skirt and black tights, all covered by long white jacket, a caplet, and an old white Ushanka from her aunt. Perhaps it was overkill in some sense, but there was a sense of familiarity and comfort that no other coordinate seemed to provide. The meeting point was the bus stop in front of the first shop that they had scouted and talked about over the phone. It was one that was the least fanciful of the ones they had seen online, and was closer to the rustic European style than anything else. Its storefront was easy for Misha to spot as the bus rounded the corner, and nearby the Russian could Nao standing nearby. With little elegant the bus came to a shuddering halt, a poor introduction compared to Misha gracefully stepping off, her white and gold cane in hand. She greeted Nao with a gentle smile. The memories of the last encounter lingered, but for now the baker's resolve remained firm. Today was a shopping trip with a good friend, so it was time to block out intrusive doubts. "I see you are putting those ribbons to good use, Nao-chan," Misha said with a satisfied chuckle. "It works quite well with the rest of your outfit. Good, simple, but bold colours as accents against a nice and light palette." With confident strides Misha walked to stand in front of the weathered wooden door of the shop. "Are you ready for today's quest?

An inconclusive and potentially backwards step-inducing ending to their previous outing had left Nao concerned about how this one would begin. She had little doubt that Misha at least would show up for their meet-up and fulfill her promise to go shopping for clothes together. Even if things were to become really awkward and strained after the last time, Misha was still a classy lady who wouldn't go back on promises. At least Nao certainly hoped that was the case with Misha. Ideally today could be turned into a rebuilding process for their relationship, whatever it is that you wanted to call it. Each passing bus made her heart skip a beat, only to prove a let down as it wasn't the one on which the Russian girl arrived. Closer and closer time got to the appointed meeting time and she wondered if she'd accidentally gotten here way too early. It was certainly possible that she could have ended up agreeing to a later meeting time than she remembered. Standing by the bus stop in the relative cold of the morning wasn't any good either. All that did was make her hop a little in place to try and keep herself warm while she waited for the right bus to finally arrive.
When it finally did she couldn't have been prepared for the vision before her. She already thought of Misha as a supremely classy older girl whose refinement was matched only by the quality of her baked goods. The warm clothing which the blonde had adopted for today's outing was classier still than anything Nao could've imagined. Nao's cheeks got a little pink at the realization of how under dressed she must appear next to such a regal ensemble. Was today going to be just as awkward as the end of tea time had been? Judging by the blonde's tone she wasn't sure it would be. Actually Misha sounded a lot more kindly and open than she'd seemed last time, which was good.
"Oh, I'm glad to hear that! I'm not really used to doing my hair like this, so it's nice to know it turned out okay. You.. really like my outfit? It's nothing special, just something I thought would be comfortable today," Nao replied with a nervous chuckle of her own, "But if you say it's good, then it must be.. you're looking really lovely.. um.. stately? I guess.. um.. nice! Yes! Y-You look nice today!"
Nao looked down immediately in order to avoid showing her full embarrassment at that fumbled attempt at complimenting the baker. She took a couple of steps like that, not saying anything while she gathered her thoughts and composure. Okay, this wasn't impossible. Just focus on little things and go forward in each moment. Repeating a lesson one of her characters had learned through a heartstring-pulling crush (obviously no correlation to this situation), Nao smiled a bit and looked up to Misha. Time to make this happier!
"A quest for ensembles is something I'm always prepared for, Misha-san! Let's set out and have fun today," Nao stated, only hints of her embarrassment remaining, "And since you came up with ideas of where to stop and look at clothes.. I have a surprise for you later. But you'll have to wait until we get closer to the right time to find out what it is."

here was a soft chuckle and a smile on Misha's face as she looked back to Nao. The author's blush, stutter, and averted gaze did not go unnoticed, and Misha seemed to sigh and shake her head as if she was watching one of the silly things that her cousins would do. Perhaps Nao was just like that, always easily flustered and insecure of herself, yet always enthusiastic even if she stumbles a little. It was the option that Misha selected because it was the most comforting one, one that pushed away the strange feelings inside her. At the very least, Nao seemed rather enthusiastic, though the thought of whatever surprise she had in store vanished as Misha looked to the storefront, which actually lacked any signage at all. The facade was that of a wooden cottage, ostensibly Western European, though the modern glass door and glass windows did break that illusion quite handily, and the view of the various outfits inside was the only clue from the outside world that it was a clothing store at all. "Well, today's first stop, it's actually a chain, with it's main store in...unsurprisingly Shinjuku," Misha explained as her grasped the handle of door. "It was a recommendation by a friend in Tokyo, someone who has a better eye on fashion than I, who may or may not be transferring here.. She also told me you make a good fit for the "Mori Girl" fashion...if you understand what athat means. Anyways...here we go." Misha pushed on through, holding the door open for Nao, and was greeted by a rush of warm air which had a faint hint of pine lingering in it. The store was far larger than what Misha had anticipated, and continued, if not went-all out, on the European aesthetic. At first glance seemed to be filled to brim with clothes, but on closer inspection dispelled the illusion as being brought by the large amount of thick winter clothing. But there were more than enough spring and summer clothing available.

That was it, just focus on the fashion to come and there would be far less difficulty with everything else going on in her mind. This is what Nao told herself as she braced for the impact of their first store. There were a ton of complicated emotions going on in her head all at the same time, and she wasn't sure what they meant or how to deal with them. She knew that she was scared of making a mistake that would jeopardize whatever it was that they'd built together. Nao also knew that she felt a certain sort of anticipation at each waking moment that she spent in the Russian's company no matter what they were doing. Like each little moment was going to hold a new moment to treasure forever, be it just a tiny shift in expression or something more profound. As she stepped through the door into the 'Mori Girl' store she still didn't want to mess a single moment. "I guess we'll see what.. it.. looks like..." Nao started to speak just as she was confronted by the brand new styles around her. She was surrounded by (appropriately enough) a forest of European-styled clothes which seemed to hop right out of a fairy tale. Not a fairy tale with ball gowns and princesses, more of a fairy tale with friendly woodland creatures and ill-advised trips to a relative's house. Words could not escape from her fully occupied mind as she slowly walked through the store, looking this way and that for fear of missing something. There were clothes for every season and that wasn't making it any easier to select something that she might be interested in trying. Or so she'd thought. All of the styles seemed to have tones and basic skirt shapes that were similar, all of which did appeal to Nao's tastes in fashion. What she found herself gravitating toward seemed to be a bit less wintry and more maybe early spring. A light blue.. was that an overdress?.. with half-sleeves, over a lacy beige skirt that seemed to be really flouncy, and with a lacy white collar to cap it all off. It was rather adorable in how they'd added a pair of light brown ankle boots with it. Would it suit someone without the height to make the flouncy nature of the ensemble float around her long legs? Try as she might the brunette couldn't take her eyes off of this one particular outfit. "Ne, Misha-san.. do you think that would suit me? It's.. pretty cute.." she remarked, blushing as she looked over at the Russian questioningly.

he shop was every bit that Komachi had described it, including...the prices. Misha sighed as she turned the price tags around. It was a specialty shop, after all, but thankfully there were a few pieces that were well within Misha's comfort zone. Pale fingers hovered above the lines of clothing as Misha swiftly walked down the aisles, lamenting how she had been spoiled by the two tailors she had amongst her friends and family. Still, she was glad to have been able to visit the shop, as it gave her ideas more than anything else. Or maybe a nice little jumper skirt, the type that Mashiro-chan would always wear? A simple but pretty white and gold setup caught Misha's eye for a few moments, but not much longer as Nao called her over. "Hm? Let me see..." Misha called out as she quickly shuffled over to take a look. It was an entire coordinate, and it worked surprisingly well together just on the hanger. "Ah, this is quite the...yes, yes...it would fit you very well," Misha said as she looked back and forth between the clothes and the girl who pointed it out, all with an inquisitive smile. "You have a good eye, Nao-chan. Just in time too, spring is indeed creeping up on us. But, just to be careful..." As she trailed off, Misha gingerly pulled on the price tag and turned it around. The price wasn't so bad in the end, and the Russian seemed to slump a little in relief. "Goodness, of all the things Komachi-chan left out, it's the price," Misha muttered as she shook her head in frustration, but eventually a charming smile returned and she turned back to Nao. "Well, I suppose they're not unreasonable, but we still have other shops."

Nao was rather pleased to hear that Misha approved of her tastes in outfits. This one had jumped out to her among all the rather cute things in the store for its particular appeal.. she couldn't quite put her finger on what that appeal was. Maybe it was the colors, they certainly were a combination that Nao was drawn to - soft, solid colors that made for a simple and attractive ensemble. Plus it was so light and floaty looking that she could just imagine traipsing about Fukui on an off day, the fabric floating around her form delightfully. That is until Misha advised caution and reached for the price tag. The author's eyes were drawn immediately to the movements of her fingers, the tag itself seeming to turn over in incredibly slow motion. Each digit in the price added to her anxiety, further removing it from what her budget amounted to.
With the final numbers revealed, her heart sank and she sighed. Even as someone who wasn't short on money, that seemed a bit pricey for clothing. No matter how lovely and floaty it seemed, she knew it wasn't something that she could easily afford. Not for a single outfit at least - she could get at least a couple full ones somewhere less fancy for that price. But maybe that was the paradox - the fanciness of an outfit was mirrored by the price and how far outside your means it was. She stepped back from the outfit on display and shrugged it off, knowing not much could be done about that.
"I'm glad we have other shops," she told Misha before turning to view some of the other outfits, "I wasn't expecting that much of an impact from the price.."
She silently went about exploring the rest of the rather quaint shop, admiring the clothes in stock. All of them were so fanciful and comfortable-looking, yet also obviously out of her clothing budget. Each time she stopped to turn over a price tag she closed her eyes in preparation for a nasty surprise - when she opened them she usually found her hesitation had been well founded. This was an expensive venture.. and that's why it was window shopping for her. After a circuit through the shop she at least had some mental images for new story characters' outfits, but very little in terms of clothes she could get for herself. At last she returned to Misha and smiled despite her disappointment at how things were turning out.
"Okay, I'm ready for the next stop," she explained with more energy than she truly felt, "Please lead the way, Misha-san!"

There was a pang of guilt as Misha watched Nao's expression sink. The Russian felt like she had failed Nao by taking to a place that was out of her reach. But she hid her feelings behind a gentle smile as she apologized. "That is okay, Nao-chan, it is my fault for not checking ahead," Misha replied. Her voice was soft despite how calm and composed it was. Driven by reflex, the baker reached out to Nao but was too late as the writer had already turned around and resumed exploring. Misha had seen most of what she had wanted to see already and wanted little in the first place, so she let her dampened spirits root her in place and watch Nao browse the store until she looped around. "Ah, let us be on our way, Nao-chan," Misha said, starting to walk backwards towards the door before smartly pivoting in place to lead the way out. Once outside, the baker waited for Nao to catch up before gesturing down the street. "Well, a little change of plans, I suppose. The next to shops are in different directions, so it doesn't shake things up too much, but...I think we may find something in our price range, just that the caveat is..." Misha sighed and looked to Nao with a slight frown. "It's not anywhere near as fancy as the one we just went too." At the crosswalk, Misha gestured which way there were going to go, and thankfully the signal meant that there was no time for awkward silence. With a facade of white concrete and glass, it presented itself as simple and modern, but the mannequins and the posters that stood behind them in the glass galleries had clothing that was a little more ornate that what one would expect. "This one is also a recommendation from my friend back in Tokyo. Price points similar to UniQlo, but a tad more fashionable. That said..." An expression of half-annoyance, half-amusement washed over her. "They really are do-in-yourselfers..." Misha said as she pointed to one of the posters featuring a tall girl in laced and embroidered dress, her jet black hair flowing around her and her eyes giving off a mischievous feel. "That there is my friend, and this...is one of the stores her family runs."

En route to the next store Nao was a bit of a bundle of nerves, worrying about her effect on the atmosphere. Maybe the sort of prices that they'd seen in the preceding store were pretty standard for nicer outfits. It was a more expensive proposition to go into a major city to do your shopping than it was to hit up less fancy places in less fancy towns. If these were all fairly typical of prices at places that Misha went to, it might be a bit insulting to be obvious about her personal shock. Getting down on this all because she wasn't used to the price range could actually create a big cloud that would rain all over their parade. The brunette told herself to chipper up so that Misha's efforts wouldn't be in vain today, and by the time they were in the next store she was smiling a bit again. "Fashionable, UniQlo type prices and do-it-yourself? I think we can make this work," Nao remarked, hoping that her rediscovered cheerfulness would help encourage Misha. Something about the blonde's expression at discussing the store seemed to indicate more of a story behind the store.. or maybe the friend of hers who'd recommended it. Probably best not to prod her too much about that right now. Especially not when she saw the girl in the poster who was the friend that caused such mixed feelings in Misha. One look at that mischievous expression and Nao could get an idea why Misha might be conflicted in her reaction to that friend. Without wasting a moment longer (in which they'd be lingering under the poster's gaze) she strolled further into the store with an eye for anything that might suit her. After a few minutes of meandering through the store she spotted an outfit that looked intriguing: an olive green tank top with a wide khaki knee length skirt and jean jacket. Maybe a little bit more jewelry would spice it up, but it was still nice. "Misha-san! Misha-san! How about this? What do you think?" she asked, pointing to the outfit with a grin and newfound exuberance.

Komachi Ikezawa was a good friend of the Kitamura family, introduced through Misha's cousin Yuki. Misha did enjoy Komachi's company greatly, but it was always hard not to remember how bloody stubborn the girl was. Even though it got her out of trouble more often that it got her into trouble, Misha already had enough hard-heads to deal with in her own family. Maybe that mutual stubborness was Komachi was so drawn to Yuki after all. At the very least, Nao seemed to have understood the description she was given. Misha watched Nao walk into the store with a tiny smile on her face, thinking to herself, "Machi-chan, you so owe me for this." In retrospect, Misha realized that Nao was probably the demographic that Komachi's family was targeting - people who still have to worry heavily about a budget but want something beyond the drab utilitarian. Of course, for all her wealth, Misha herself was rather unashamed to purchase and wear clothes for this store. Nao taking the lead was rather refreshing, and without any desire to really hunt for clothes for herself, Misha was content to simply shadow her junior as they went amongst the racks and shelves. Though a few pieces would catch Misha's eye every now and then, the Russian remained focused more on Nao's condition than anything else. Thankfully, Nao was able to find something quite nice. "Ah, let me see..." Misha said as she closed in on Nao, standing right next to her due to the proximity of the racks. "Ah, interesting. Neutrals and spring colours, perfect for the upcoming season. Maybe a few bits of hair decorations would work. Maybe a good belt too." Pale fingers turned the little price tag around, and Misha nodded in her approval. "That's...that's actually a little lower than I expect. Machi-chan, what is this..."

Finding clothes that were both nice looking and affordable was something that had Nao almost over the moon. No matter how simple the color scheme was, she was almost instantly infatuated with them due to the price tag alone. Especially with the context of the mori girl fashion from the preceding store fresh in her mind, this was a far cry better for her wallet. Granted her eyes drifted over toward other options on nearby racks which actually looked like they were emulating that exact sort of fashion. What a find! While the author wanted to bolt over to that new rack to check things out she did have company today who she didn't want to make feel like she was just an observer. This was as much about spending the day with Misha as it was about getting advice on fashions to try which would be a bit classier than her usual fare.
"So.. I picked well?" she asked, looking up and over at Misha, blushing at her realization of dual purpose. After a moment she smiled a little, "Hey, can we hold onto those and check out something else? I think I might buy something here!"
With that she basically pushed the first outfit into Misha's hands expectantly before giggling a little despite her embarrassment. Now that she'd found something in her price range which also suited her she was going to make the utmost of the opportunity! Not that she was going to simply run off without some kind of indication of her intended destination. As she flitted over to the mori girl-esque racks she motioned with her hand to invite the blonde to accompany her there. However her speed was such that Nao was almost a blur of soft tones en route, weaving between a couple of other girls who were shopping in a nearby section. Once at the new racks Nao's eyes were wide as saucers at the various possibilities presented by the much more affordable selection. Okay, so these weren't totally mori girl style but they were definitely flowing and casual enough to suit it. Perhaps that long black skirt with mint green floral trim along the hem would suit her? Soon the author was holding it up in front of her to judge whether it was indeed something that might work.
"Ne, ne, Misha-san? What do you think?" she asked, twirling about with the skirt held in front and clearly enjoying herself a good deal more than before.

With a soft smile and small nod, Misha agreed to hold onto the clothes. As Nao searched, Misha continued to slowly walk down the ailes behind her, though she turned a few tags around any now and then out of curiosity, picking out at random. Every turn the price tags with met with a bit of awe and wonder. These prices...either through lower margins or...that's right. This store was only a result of Komachi's father's farm. When you own the supply, of course you can make things less expensive. In any case, it was a good thing that these were so affordable, if for nothing more than making sure that Nao was able to have a wardrobe, or at least that was what Misha told herself. Curiosity sated, Misha looked over to Nao as the author went to and fro, weaving through the racks. Something told Misha to just keep her distance. To watch warmly, to be a guide, like a gardener letting her garden grow. Nao was happy, but that image of happiness seemed so fragile in Misha's mind that the Russian feared that if she stepped in she would break it. But her plans quickly crumbled when Nao rushed back to her, showing off a potential skirt. Lime green and black was something that Misha found to be an eccentric combination, but didn't feel like it was far out that it couldn't be worked around. As if in fear that it would snap in two, the baker gently brushed her finger along the fabic as she thought. "Hm...do you have something that you can pair with it?" Misha softly asked, shifting gears in her mind. "Mint green...A nice mint green top, short-sleeved, will work too. Hm..." A contemplative look was on the chef's face as she looked towards the racks again. "Here...this would be a nice coordinate, right?" Slowly and carefully, she pulled out a pale green blouse with some light frilled trim from the racks and offered it to Nao. Those Misha was still smiling, the way she held onto the blouse was as if it would shatter if she moved any faster.

Upon showing off the newest finds to Misha, the author felt a great sense of accomplishment in her sense of fashion. Where once she'd been uncertain of what clothes would suit her or look classy, she now could sort of pick things out for herself. There was a supremely validating feeling to Misha's assessment of what she'd selected off the rack. Plus having another coordinate offered by the baker just added to the possibilities of building up a nice wardrobe which could further help the brunette... do what? Nao did slow down to wonder at what exactly she was going to accomplish in getting more clothes. She certainly had a good number of options from home, but there was a distinct lack of variety in the looks. So.. variety, was that really all this was about?
As she looked at the nice top her friend held out, Nao realized there was indeed more to this whole outing. Because her eyes soon followed up the arm to look at Misha's expression which was smiling but somehow felt a little strange. Despite the outwardly pleasant look the way that she'd been holding the blouse was far too careful for something just made of cloth. It felt like something was wrong right now even though Misha was attempting to help and on the surface of it nothing was wrong. She couldn't put her finger on it, but in the back of her mind she knew what was going on. Just like the whole evening with the tea and trying on outfits Misha wasn't staying as close to her as their baking escapades had been.
"Hm? Oh yes, that looks really nice!" Nao nodded as she carefully took the blouse from Misha's hands and held it up with the skirt in front of her. Just focus on the clothes, Nao, and you'll be fine.
And the other girl had been right - they really did go together nicely. Lime green wasn't a shade that was easy to pair with other colors but this match seemed to look just fine. Why then did she feel noncommittal about it? Slowly she glanced back over at Misha and blushed a little - even with something being off, her smile was rather pretty. Her thoughts were starting to turn to her realization about Misha's behavior but it was slow going what with the swirling mess of feelings that Nao herself was going through. She wanted to make this a fun experience for her friend as well but the way Misha was acting.. did that mean that she'd done something wrong again?
The brunette added, "I think I'll get these then.. after I pay for them, um.. what would you like to do?"

A smile slowly spread across Misha's face as Nao took the blouse from her. Lime green was incredibly hard for Misha to pair, but when Nao held the clothes up, they seemed to fit well enough, letting the Russian breathe a sigh of relief. All she needed to do was clear her mind, right? Don't worry about anything else right now. Take care of Nao. Just take care of Nao. And ignore that blush. That means nothing. No, it means something, but right now, Misha was resolved to expunge that detail in her mind. Instead, she focused on the question that the writer posed to her. Immediately, Misha opened her mouth ever so slightly, but quickly closed it. Reflex was about to make her say, 'would you like to get something to eat?", but that wasn't the question. The question was about what Misha herself wanted to do. And beyond the nebulous concept of 'make sure you are okay', she had little idea. "Hmm...well. Perhaps I can go for something to eat." Misha finally said after another moment of silence. It was a twist on what her original idea was. "Though, I have little preference for food at the moment. Do you have an idea what you may be in the mood for?" Slowly, Misha approached Nao, but kept her distanec. Even as they made their way to the registers to pay for the clothes, Misha walked a few steps behind, as if to watch over Nao like a servent. Still, the baker kept smiling earnestly, enjoying Nao's company.

The flood of emotions and uncertainties made it difficult for Nao to get a reliable read on her situation with Misha. On the surface they were just close friends enjoying some time out and about doing some shopping and grabbing something to eat. There wasn't anything inherently intimate about any of that other than what one's mind conjured to fill in the blanks. Yet any time she looked at the older girl she felt a frenzy of fluttering butterflies in her stomach that she hadn't been able to place for the time they'd spent together. Until now. Now as they talked about finding something to eat she caught an inkling of what that mess might mean but it simply didn't make any sense. Misha was a classy, kind and lovely young woman she'd become very close to and whom she'd do almost anything for; she worried about failing to live up to the blonde's expectations regularly. That didn't mean that there was.. affection did there? Maybe?
Choosing the right place to eat took hold of her thoughts so as not to overburden her imagination. Those were the kinds of thoughts she had about other girls while watching them interact (and getting ideas for stories), not about herself and anyone else. No, this was just an exciting day that probably had overstimulated her, that's all. Nao had her thoughtful face on as she thought through the possibilities for food and advanced toward the registers. She made it through the whole payment process before she had a thought and smiled again. Food was a wonderful thing to take one's mind off of blossoming feelings and the thoughts related to them.
"I think something a little spicy would be nice," Nao remarked with a chipper tone, swinging her bagged purchases merrily, "After getting lucky with these clothes I'm feeling a little.. dangerous."
She giggled at herself and held the bag in front of her, "Is that okay with you?"

The energetic way that Nao responded put Misha at ease, even allowing the baker to raise an eyebrow in amusement over Nao's notion of 'danger'. It was enough of a distraction that Misha was push away her feelings to the back of her mind. This trip, though barely planned in terms of itenerary (not that Misha was trying to plan it), ended up being far more tumultuous than what Misha had expected. But at least Nao was able to find what she was looking for, and perhaps Komachi-chan would have been rather proud. "That is all well and good with me, Nao-chan. Though, spicy...I'm not sure what a good 'spicy' food would be. A spicy curry? A spicy ramen? Maybe an Indian or Thai or Korean place? Or perhaps you had a place in mind already?" Misha asked with a chuckle, turning as Nao passed by her so they could walk out of the store side-by-side. Spicy food, while not something Misha detested, was something she had little idea how to make or more important, where to find any at at the current moment. Back out on the streets, Misha looked from side to side. There were a few restaurants along the street as far as she could see, but none at first glace seemed to fit Nao's request for 'spicy'. With a sigh, Misha shook her head and looked to Nao. "As my little cousin said, if you have no destination, and path is the right one. So, I propose...let's wander a bit. Unless you're in a rush?" Misha blinked slowly. From the strain of trying to keep her thoughts and emotions in check, Misha was getting exhausted and her frustrations and tangled mess of feelings was starting to show.

"Nope, I don't really have much of an idea where we'd go for spicy," Nao responded cheerfully, very carefree as she reveled in both the affordable clothes and the wonderful company. The fact that she was getting to spend time like this with Misha wasn't taken for granted. After the awkwardness of the tea incident Nao had worried the other girl might not want anything to do with her. Instead they were here, walking alongside each other toward the general destination of an eatery. While she might really still worry what exactly this meant for their relationship with one another, it was enough for now. At least that's what she continued to tell herself as she listened to Misha offer a suggestion on what they ought to do.
The brunette nodded, "That sounds fine, Shir… Misha-san. I'm in no hurry right now, so taking a casual pace is fine." Fine? That was the best she could muster in the face of this opportunity to spend more time around an amazing young woman like Misha? There were a thousand other words which floated around the back of Nao's mind which could better describe her feelings toward the idea of just being with the blonde. Fine wasn't nearly strong enough of a word. Of course the more her mind wandered into that territory the less genuinely cheerful Nao felt about everything. This might be the most that she could get out of being with Misha. Just a general feeling of being welcome as a friend, a companion and nothing more. Was that something which Nao herself was willing to accept? The brunette knew in her heart that it wasn't.. the thought of being present but only being present tore at that heart mercilessly.
So she walked along in awkward silence for a few minutes, trying her best to hide the growing uneasiness in her mind with a pleasant smile on her lips. As long as Misha assumed that she was feeling okay, their outing wouldn't be ruined by those nagging questions. Without realizing it she had moved a step closer to Misha's side to allow foot traffic heading the other direction to get by. A couple of times her hand brushed Misha's accidentally, and the brunette's cheeks became rosy as she tried not to think about it. Just friends. Just keep things like that, it was what Misha was interested in doing - nothing more than that. After a while she looked ahead and saw a sign which promised something that could distract her mind from conflicted thoughts.
"Misha-san, look! That's an Indian restaurant, isn't it? I'm sure they'd have spicy things," Nao suggested reaching for Misha's hand without realizing it, "I-If you're okay with that, I mean."

Where the many sons and daughters of the Kitamura family would have loved to craft the perfect plan, Misha was content to wander the streets of Fukui city. Perhaps it was one of the few things that one could tell apart the blood-related children from the adopted. But such musing was quickly overtaken by other thoughts as Nao's hand brushed against hers. There was a sense of weariness as Misha's eyes shifted to her side towards her hand. That was no accident. Or at least, it was not the work of completely hands idly swaying without a destination. Slowly, Misha's gaze raised to Nao's face, quietly studying it. Ther was a smile on the smaller girl's face, and it seemed like it was chastising her for feeling so conflicted. If Nao was happy, then Misha had no right to be feeling so tormented. Misha's thoughts started to drift away from restaurants and back to Tokyo, where her little sister Haruna was still living, only to be pulled back by Nao's hand reaching for hers. Reflexively, Misha caught Nao's hand, gingerly holding the writer's palm between her thumb and middle finger and sighing ever so slightly. It was the baker's own expression of being split between two desires she did not understand and the question that kept ringing in her mind. But the mental torment only lasted a tiny moment as Misha gave in with another sigh, transitioning her grip silently to hold onto Nao's hand as she looked ahead to where her companion was pointing. "Indian?" Misha echoed, trying to relax as she chuckled. "Admittedly, my repertoire doesn't expand into the realm of South Asian cooking, so I think it would be a good experience for both of us. If nothing else, we know of a new place to eat. Or not." It took another deep breath and a sigh for Misha to finally relax, gripping Nao's hand firmly as the baker picked up her pace and lead teh way to the restaurant.

Fireworks might as well have been going off the moment that their hands were joined for all the excitement it gave Nao. There were plenty of ways to explain away the gesture of Misha taking her hand firmly which didn't at all involve the kinds of things Nao imagined it entailing. Just guiding her through a crowd of people so that neither of them got lost was certainly one of those possibilities. Yet her thoughts and hopes briefly rested on it being a more intimate gesture which carried with it a deeper, important meaning for the two of them. A sign that the blonde really did feel a deeper connection to Nao and wanted to show it through a simple yet direct action which could not be mistaken. Except this totally could be mistaken, or maybe Nao was just mistaken about the signals that she was getting from her companion. If in fact they were signals at all and not just the yuri novelist's imagination getting the better of her by leaps and bounds.
The scents and smells of spices wafting out of the restaurant distracted her somewhat from the musings which had served to confound her. Perhaps, she thought, the spiciness of the food would burn away any thoughts that were lingering in her mind about where they were headed. If they were even headed anywhere and not just maintaining a status quo she didn't know if she'd be happy with. They stepped through the front door and soon found themselves sitting at a table in the homey feeling restaurant, all the while Nao's thoughts denying her the chance to really focus on the here and now. For a moment the brunette looked up into Misha's eyes hopefully, thinking maybe something might happen now that they were nestled in a warm corner of the restaurant. Then she blushed and threw herself into the process of deciding what to order by hastily picking up a menu.
Nao buried her face in the tall menu so she wouldn't accidentally lock eyes with the baker too soon. It was getting a little harder each place they went to focus just on the activity itself, even if just participating in the activity would be the best thing for both of them. Just friends. By the time Nao had buried the mounting feelings again, she realized that she didn't know that much about the different kinds of curry which Indian cuisine boasted. All she'd ever had was the Japanese adaptation of it, which wasn't the same when you got right down to it. So.. what sounded good? Something spicy was what she was after, so she started just taking in the menu's information about how hot some of the dishes were. You could get them at any level of spiciness that you wanted apparently, and the idea of seafood curry sounded good. Her mind was made up, but she only hesitantly looked up over her the menu at Misha.
"Did you find something t-to try? We could always.. um.. share our orders," she suggested anxiously, "I-if you're okay with that.."

The firm grip of Misha's hand seemed to loosen as they approached the restaurant, though it was more of her being distracted than wanting to truely let go. Wafts of various spices confirmed to the baker that the place was indeed authentic, at least as far as Misha was knowledgeable about Indian cuisine. Misha had expected a bit more of a showy venue, but it was a wonderful surprise to see how homey it was; on closer inspection, it seemed like it was converted from an apartment of sort. Nonetheless, it was an atmosphere that was all the more calming as Misha let go of Nao's hand to take a seat at the table. If there were any worries that clouded Misha's mind, they were obliterated as the baker narrowed her eyes and scrutinized the menu. Based on the description of the dishes, they indeed seemed to fit the bill of 'spicy', though from Misha's knowledge of spices from school she could get a feel of more or less what the dish would taste like from written descriptions. The curries stood out to her the most, and when it came down to it, the restaurant's selections seemed to boil down to a grid of meats paired with a set of spices. And so, the baker made her choice. "There are many things here to try, but I think I will go for the yellow chicken curry. That said..." Misha said, putting the menu down slowly but with sense of confidence. She smiled at Nao, but it was not the usual bright smile Misha showed to world. It was the worried smile she would show her sister Haruna whenever the chef both wanted to calm down her nervous sibling while coaxing her to be more expressive. "I am happy to share my meal with you, if you would share what's on your mind," Misha quipped, adding a soft chuckle. "Something other than a good meal and an updated wardrobe seems to be haunting you. And if there is anything I can do to help assuage it...well." The chef ran out of words and shrugged. Roundabout, perhaps, but she felt that it was a better approach.
