Fue's hand touches hers as they both reach for the napkins at the same time. It's completely unexpected, since Moriko had only been focused on trying to clean up her mess. Freezing in place, she also blurts out a quick "Sorry!" at the same time Fue speaks. Despite the fact that the other girl takes her hand back quickly, Moriko can still feel the ghostly touch of the fingers lingering against her own. It's in the fast fading warmth, fleeting but still oddly very much there. The heat seems to have moved, though, since she can feel a bit of it on her cheeks. Embarrassment rises in her, though she's confused on as to why.
What is this?? she silently wonders, a bit distressed at her strange emotional state.
The fact that she'd frozen in place means that her hand still hovers over the napkin pile. Returning Fue's smile with a nervous one of her own, Moriko stammers out a soft, "O-okay. Thank you..." and snags a few of the napkins. Her face still has soup on it, so she hastily wipes up that mess first. Afterwards, she bends her head to the task of cleaning up her area, making sure that it's as spotless as she can get it without using some kind of cleaning agent to aid the process.
It's only when she's carefully and neatly stacked the empty dishes and used utensils in her tray, that she returns her gaze back to Fue. Her area is now mess free. The familiar task of cleaning up after her meal has calmed and grounded her. She can now look Fue in the eyes, face clean, and smile at her.
"All clean," she proclaims, the satisfaction in her voice and on her face hard to miss. She even punctuates the statement with a small nod. She's not a neat freak, by any means. But she was raised being told, "If you make a mess, you clean it up." Which she firmly believes in.

After Moriko had taken her napkin, Fue took one of her own and started wiping her area down. Being clean was polite and even if the dinner period would be ending soon, it was important not to leave a mess for the next person who might come by. Even if it was easy to clean, coming to a table that was still dirty just felt gross. She dropped the now dirty napkin in with the rest of her things and then pulled out her bag. It didn't take her long to pull out the disposable wipes she used for her camera and she started to clean that off too.
"Clean is important." Fue said in agreement. If you didn't take care of your things, there would be issues on down the line and quality would suffer. Quality was bad enough with her lack of experience and weird little tics. She put her camera away in her bag and dumped all her trash in the bowl. Fue had already forgotten the awkward hand contact, her mind moving forward. Obviously physical human contact with non-family members hadn't been as rare in her life growing up as it had been for Moriko's. Stuff like this happened, fussing over it was a bit silly.
Fue stood up and picked up her tray. After far too long, dinner was over and she could get out of here. "It was nice talking with you." It hadn't been all that much talking, honestly. The time had mostly been spent eating or fussing about with food. Still, it hadn't been unpleasant. Just a little embarrassing but that was the way it went with strangers and Fue's photography habits. So she was pretty used to that by now. "I guess I'll see you tomorrow?"

Nodding at Fue's words, Moriko rises just a beat after the other girl. Snagging her tray, she silently follows behind her. There's two trash cans side by side. Dumping her trash into it, she sets the tray and used utensils in the designated spots. Dinner is finally over. A small burst of relief sparks its way through her. This means she can get away from this room always filled with too many people. Granted, at this time of the evening there's much less people around than at the beginning of dinner. But it's still too many people by her standards.
And this time, it hadn't been as bad as usual. Glancing sideways at Fue, she wonders what the other girl is thinking. Did Fue enjoy her company as much as Moriko had enjoyed hers? Even as the thought crosses her mind, the other girl turns towards her and speaks. Another bout of joy blooms in her at Fue's words. But it's quickly tempered by past experiences.
Friends are, after all, rather difficult to make.
Moriko locks eyes with Fue and leans forward slightly. Her expression is both serious and hopeful, her teals shining with her happiness, even if her mouth doesn't show it.
"You mean it? You want to eat with me again? Tomorrow?" Her voice comes out soft and tinged with just the slightest bit of disbelief. But it's also filled with a cautious hope.
She'd not meant to get them up too high.

As the pair threw away the trash and put up the dishes, Fue couldn't help but smile. So it hadn't been an ideal dinner, a lot of things had gone poorly, but Moriko didn't dislike her after their last meeting and they were sort of friends now. Awkward friends but then, Fue wasn't exactly skilled at being friends with people her own age in the first place and Moriko seemed to be at least as awkward as she was.
"Sure." Fue responds to Moriko. "I mean, if we end up having dinner around the same time, I wouldn't mind if you sat with me." plus, she could maybe ease Moriko in to the group of friends. Sure, the shy girl didn't like a crowd, but three or four more people wasn't a crowd really, it would be a good start. Assuming any of Fue's clique were there at all. Dinner was a hectic time and people came by when they were hungry or it was convenient.
"I try and get here early so I can do all my photography stuff before it gets too crowded but that can take a while." Like it had tonight. She walked back to the table to get her school bag and camera bag. "So if you want, that's when I'll be around probably." It wasn't exactly a concrete time but it was kind of the best she had. She didn't have any plans to get in the way, maybe Moriko wouldn't either.

Yet somehow, Fue doesn't seem to mind being around her. Despite her worry, Moriko's hope is kindly met when the other girl confirms her question. A small smile tilts her lips up, her eyes bright with her happiness. She nods as she listens quietly to Fue's words about her eating schedule. Though she usually tries to make it to dinner a bit later than the time Fue says she arrives, Moriko decides to at least try out the earlier times. And if it turns out that she can't stand it, she can at least work out the best time to meet up with Fue . Preferably after the rush has ended. Judging from how late the other girl has stayed today, it might not too difficult of a task to pull off.
Either way, she now has an eating partner!
"I can try and make it earlier," she says as she walks with Fue back to the table to fetch her things. Moriko doesn't have anything of her own to grab. "I don't do much, outside of homework, before dinner." After dinner, though, is when some of her adventures really begin. Depending on the amount of homework she has, and how much she cares about doing it.

Making Moriko join her wasn't exactly the intention. And Fue kind of felt a small pang of guilt about that. But it wasn't as if they were making solid plans like this was some kind of date or anything, it was just an invitation to share a table in the school cafeteria. "Don't" she stammered, "don't feel like you have to change up to hang out with me. I don't mind eating alone or anything, I promise."
"I don't really do much before either, I just like to try and get food and eating over with as quickly as possible so I can get on with the night." For Fue, food wasn't exactly some fantastic and enjoyable thing. A lot of the time, it was a trial to get to eat at all.
"But, umm," she paused, not sure where to go from here. "I'll see you tomorrow then? Maybe?" She wasn't trying to sound hopeful, it just kind of came out that way. Though Moriko probably wouldn't enjoy sitting around for the entire time that Fue took to prepare her food for the camera before eating. But that was fine, it would be some company at first and maybe another friend would step in afterwards and it wouldn't be entirely suffering alone.

Moriko can't quite believe her ears at Fue's words. Try and get food and eating over with as quickly as possible?? It comes as a bit of a shock at the realization that other's don't view eating food in quite the same light as she does. But at the other girl's stammering, she shakes her head in an attempt to clear the disbelief tinging her thoughts.
"Oh, I don't mind coming in a bit earlier than usual," she says, even as she shifts a bit uneasily in place. "The food is better earlier. And there's usually more of it." A burst of loud laughter rings out. Stiffening slightly, Moriko snaps her head in the direction of the unexpected sound. It's the group of four girls that she'd noticed earlier. She'd stopped tracking their progress a little while ago. Which is quite unusual for the usually cautious girl. Her conversation with Fue had been rather engaging, after all...
The group of girls is now pretty close to their table. They're chatting and walking at the same time, heading right in their direction. It doesn't seem like they're aiming for the two girls, though. Just meandering around the cafeteria for some reason that's completely incomprehensible to Moriko. Grimacing slightly, Moriko returns her attention back to Fue. Her movements are a bit sharper than they had been before, her eyes slightly wider in the dim light.
Giving a jerky nod, Moriko replies, "Tomorrow then." Eyes darting towards the ever approaching group of girls, she licks her lips. "I'll come in after the rush, but earlier than now." Throwing a final nervous smile Fue's way, Moriko gives another quick nod and scurries off. Head up and watching, she slips out the doors she'd come in from and vanishes down the hall.

They were very different people, despite their occasional similarities. Fue enjoyed food too but she also hated dealing with it sometimes. Eating the food was a chore, with her weird photography habits, but if she didn't...well, it went really badly for her if she didn't photograph what she ate. But while she loved photographing food as a project, so often as to be nearly constant, the time it took to get the right photograph or the touch ups to make the food look nice rendered the food inedible. She kind of wished she could really enjoy eating food like Moriko did. Though, with Fue's metabolism, she'd probably put on weight like like an elephant if she ever ate that much all at once. Keeping fit was already difficult.
Moriko's behavior changed suddenly at something Fue hadn't even noticed. Just more background noise amid all the rest of it. She turned to look and saw a group of other kids talking. She looked back at Moriko who seemed visibly nervous. Definitely a stark contrast between the two of them. "Ok, umm, see you tomorrow then." Fue said and smiled back. It seemed like their meetings kept ending this way. Moriko running off after an awkward goodbye. Fue gave the retreating girl a wave goodbye.
She turned to look at the group of girls. They seemed pretty normal, probably not bullies or anything. She looked back towards the door where Moriko had left from. Maybe she really was that skittish. Probably better to introduce her to the gang a little at a time. If at all. Fue took a deep breath and began the slow walk back to her dorm room. This friendship was nice, but was going to require a lot of careful treading so as not to break the ice. But who knows, maybe it would be really nice in the end, for both of them.
