When you stare at a girl and she thinks you're judging, but you're really just gay Reina Naoki Seventeen · Female · Japanese · Art - Hair: Scarlet locks fall mid-length, pooling around her shoulders. Reina's hair is soft and silky to the touch, though it may appear to be quite messy and unkempt at times; she's incredibly susceptible to unruly bedhead, too. When working, she tends to tie her hair into a low ponytail.
- Eyes: A striking lavender shines through almond eyes, distant and nonchalant. Far-sighted; wears maroon, oval framed glasses when reading or otherwise needed.
- Face: Sharp features accent Reina's heart-shaped face, her complexion healthy with a very slight tan. Prone to eye bags after frequent all-nighters, often opts to hide them with makeup if they get too noticeable.
- Body: Stands a little taller than average at 5'6, her frame slender and her chest moderately endowed, leaning more towards the smaller side.
- Clothing: Reina's style(outside of the school uniform) could be described as 'whatever's at the front of her closet in the morning'. Simple and most times uncoordinated, her wardrobe consists of the usual shirts, jeans, and a single pair of shorts for the hot days when only Satan himself would wear jeans. Her clothes consist mostly of basic colors and patterns, nothing too flashy or colorful. If she has plans with someone, though, you can bet your ass she'll go all the way to Tokyo just to buy a nice outfit to impress them, or at least to look generally presentable. The skirt of her school uniform is the standard length, usually worn with loose socks.
appearance - General: Reina isn't exactly a people person. While she doesn't intend to be antisocial, she finds it difficult to express herself and thus can act somewhat standoffish at times to those she isn't familiar with. Her stares often come off unintentionally harsh or judging as Reina is known to space out whilst intently gazing at those who catch her eye. She tries to be discreet when it comes to someone she's interested in, be it friendship or more, but to her great misfortune, it never is.
Living life from the sidelines, this quiet and typically reserved girl became someone who saw more than what was simply in front of her, someone who observed and noticed the small things that could have otherwise been overlooked. To read between the lines, a skill that with time, was integrated into her art. Every little detail mattered regardless of how small or insignificant, a belief that took part in both her personality and her work. Reina is a very creative person, although her ideas and revelations do tend to have awful timing; whether it be at four in the morning when her eyes are heavy with sleep and her mind already full of dreams, in the shower where the only notebook available was her god awful memory, during a particularly difficult class in which she should be paying attention... at some point, Reina believed that she might've done something in a past life to deserve such bad luck.
She was never a pro when it came to interaction. Reina didn't understand it, how people could string together such eloquent, articulate sentences, as if they were masters of language and sovereign of words. She tries to play it cool, to appear composed and nonchalant in demeanor. Appearances only go so far, though, and once one was to get past her facade, all that was left was awkward smiles and a face that betrayed her every emotion. It was all there as though she was an open book, unable to hide her feelings. Some carried with them a thousand masks to hide behind; Reina had none.
Love is a subject untouched by a pure, innocent soul who's only experience, if it even counts for anything, is romance manga. She's had her crushes here and there, short and fleeting, but Reina's never truly fallen in love. If she ever did, it would take a while for her to realize it until the moment everything clicks, at which point her life will flip upside down and inside out, alongside her weak, gay heart. All the yuri in the world wouldn't be able to prepare her for (hopefully) what's to come!
- Things Reina Enjoys
- Painting, a very relaxing and therapeutic pastime. A passion too!
- Manga. A long-time interest that she prefers to keep to herself.
- Sciences; Oceanography, Geology, Astronomy, a little bit of everything.
- The occasional video and/or arcade game, though she isn't too good at them.
- Things Reina Hates
- Insects. More legs = more to fear.
- Hot/humid weather(sweat is gross!)
- Chuuni past. How embarrassing!
- When you sit down and pour yourself some cereal only to find that there's not enough milk in the fridge
- Reina's Habits
- Disorganized... don't visit her room! Art tools and old sketches scattered upon the floor, buried by clothes she has yet to wash.
- Easy to fluster, quick to blush. Often fumbles over her words when nervous and/or embarrassed.
- Purchasing clothes that are a little too big for her, most of which have long sleeves that overtake her hands. She finds it to be comforting in an odd way.
- Easily loses track of time, happens primarily when she's deeply concentrated in something.
- Reina's Positive Traits
- Benevolent
- Observant
- Ingenuitive
- Reina's Negative Traits
- Your Own Section
- Finds unconventional things cute; deep sea fish with beady, soulless black eyes?? Adorable, probably owns a plush version.
- Speaking of which – owns too many plushies. Adds to the clutter she brings to wherever she calls home, and even so, Reina isn't against buying more. They're just... so cute!
- Has a rock collection. Not a very important part of her life, but it's there.
- Hellbent on hiding her past at All Costs
- A bit shy when it comes to her sexuality; Reina isn't used to being open about her interest in females.
personality - History: Throughout the course of her not-so-long life, Reina had gone through many different phases. Some good, some... less good, but there was one in particular that she could never forget, that shaped the person she would one day become once it was all over, after the only trace of it left was that of memories which she wished to forget: Chuunibyou
Looking back on it, there was a whole lot she would've liked to deny. But in the end, all the signs were there, all symptoms present for a diagnosis that haunted her even now. Like many others, Reina was blessed with the pleasure of living in Tokyo during her youth. Her childhood was by no means awful; both of her parents worked hard to provide for their family, but in turn, that meant less time spent with their children. Two, to be exact – Reina and Rini, her younger sister born around two years later. Without an abundance of attention from their parents, the two often found solace in one another; Reina didn't mind, whether it be playing pretend or reading stories to her younger sister. Because of this, they formed a close bond, and for a long time Reina might've considered her sister to be her best friend too. All in all, Reina was a rather quiet and reserved child, that was, until some unholy time in middle school.
Reina didn't see it coming, no one ever did. But when her chuunibyou hit, it hit hard. No longer was she Reina, the polite and responsible grade-schooler. She became Zero(rei), an all powerful sorceress who wields the power of fire. Textbooks became manga, and at some point, she dropped her studies in favor of bringing her own stories to life with pen and paper. At the time, she thought it to be 'cool', much cooler than whatever the hell everyone else was doing. With the power she held, Zero could trust no one but herself... she was destined to be alone, to live throughout all eternity with nothing but the light of her own flame to guide her... Although despite her odd musings and intricate delusions, her sister did continue to support her, so perhaps she lived throughout all eternity with nothing but the light of her own flame(and Rini).
Needless to say, Reina eventually grew out of her chuunibyou, and in its wake lied a heap of embarrassment, as well as some hard-earned, respectable art skills(but mostly embarrassment). In an attempt to escape her past, Reina opted to leave Tokyo and move to Sabae, where her grandmother welcomed her with open arms. Fukui Academy presented a new opportunity for Reina to start over, to leave her past in the dust and begin anew with less magic, sorcery, and, well... the rest of it. To her misfortune though, chuunibyou wasn't the only thing she would be leaving behind. In her life, she'd made very few decisions on impulse, and this was one of them. In leaving Tokyo, she left her sister behind, too. Reina tried to explain it as best as she could, but it seemed as if Rini didn't understand her reasons for leaving, at least not now. It wasn't the best of goodbyes, nor the sweetest or the most heartfelt, but Reina believed leaving would be the best thing for her to do.
The time spent at Fukui Academy was quite peaceful, and for the most part, Reina kept to herself. The first two years had been difficult as she explored different forms of art and honed her skills with a whole lot of sweat, and maybe a little bit of tears. While the influence of manga surely left its mark on her art style, Reina has recently taken an interest in scenery painting, capturing the beauty of Fukui, the views one wouldn't normally see in a busy, technology-filled city such as Tokyo. Around some time in her second year, she'd run into a familiar face, a very familiar face. Rini, the last person she expected to see at her school. Their reunion was an emotional one, filled with all the apologies Reina could muster for up and leaving her younger sister so suddenly. Rini's tears and anger became the seeds of reconcilation between the two, and honestly, Reina couldn't have been more happy to be with her sister again. She hadn't been doing all that well on her own but now, she wasn't alone anymore.
And thus, her third year begins...
