Once bitten, twice shy.
Yoshino Kanzaki Sixteen · Female · Japanese · CulInary Arts - Hair: Brown and long; aside from washing and brushing it each morning, she rarely bothers to do much with it. When cooking she ties it into a single ponytail and tucks it behind her jacket to keep it out of the way, and wears a headscarf to keep her bangs under control.
- Eyes: Her eyes are brown. By looking into them, one can tell how bitter and lonely she feels most of the time. That said, there's also a small flicker of passion, held back only by her insecurities. With the right push, that tiny spark could potentially ignite into a burning flame.
- Face: Despite her tomboyish behavior, her face is actually quite feminine; some have joked that it's the only reason no one ever mistakes her for a guy, though her voice and long hair also tends to be a dead giveaway. She default expression seems to be that of a cold and aloof person, making her difficult to approach at first glance.
- Body: Standing at an average 5'4", Yoshino has a slender yet muscular frame, the result of years of practicing kendo. While she no longer does so, she still makes an effort to at least stay in shape. Her right shoulder is heavily scarred, which she tries to keep hidden. Much to her chagrin, she is fairly flat-chested, only able to fill an A-cup.
- Clothing: When not in her school uniform, Yoshino is the type to not pay any attention to the latest fashions or trends; more often that not, she just throws on whatever she happens to grab first. The only real constant is that she greatly prefers loose clothing that don't show a lot of skin.
appearance - General: Despite having a cold exterior that makes her difficult to approach, Yoshino can actually be a fairly pleasant person to be around. Her main problem, however, is that she is wracked with insecurities and has trouble opening up to others. She doesn't have much trouble making friends, but she often avoids personal questions, making it difficult to get particularly close to her.
More than anything else, she's got numerous emotional (and a few physical) scars from an incident in her first year of high school; not only did her best friend completely betray her trust, but on top of everything else, a senpai she had a crush on (which was outed during a heated argument with said best friend) added insult to injury by rejecting her an exceedingly harsh and blatantly homophobic manner.
As a result, she is deeply terrified of forming a close bond with anyone else, in fear of losing them in same way. She's also terrified by the prospect of romance, fearing what others (especially any girls she might end up liking) will think of her. Make no mistake though; if anyone is able to look past her prickly demeanor and make the effort, they'll find themselves with a loyal and trustworthy friend,
And who knows? Maybe she'll finally find that "special someone" who can give her the push she needs to finally start overcoming all of her insecurities. - Things Yoshino Enjoys

- Has a tendency to scratch the back of her head when confused and/or debating on something.
- When really bored, she'll sometimes take two pencils and pretend they're swords in a kendo match.
- When she's really flustered by how cute/hot another girl is, she'll often glance to the side and have trouble looking at them directly. Becomes all the more obvious if this person is speaking directly to her.
- She almost constantly hums to herself when cooking; half the time, she doesn't even realize she's doing it.

- To this day, her right shoulder remains crippled, and she is physically incapable of lifting her arm. Although she can bend her elbow easily and still has full control of her wrist and fingers, it still means she can't reach anything that isn't directly in front of her.
- To a lesser extent, her right knee was also badly damage in the incident that also destroyed her shoulder. It's healed up enough that she can walk around on it with little trouble. However, she has difficulty with running and jumping because of it, and she also has trouble staying on her feet for a long time.
- While it's not bad enough to be an outright phobia, she tends to be nervous when around flights of stairs. It's not as bad when she needs to go up them, but she's always noticeably hesitant when she she needs to go down them. More often than not, it takes her a moment to motivate herself to do so.
personality - History: Born to a semi-famous lawyer and a stay-at-home mother, Yoshino's childhood was a fairly normal one. Her father made more than enough money to support the three of them, and they were well off that Yoshino was never without anything she needed. Yoshino got into her fair share of mischief, but she never actively misbehaved or got into any serious trouble. Overall, she was happy when growing up.
When Yoshino was about six, she met a young girl named Mio Sakuraba. The two of them were practically complete opposites of each other, yet the two seemed to hit it off surprisingly well, and soon became inseparable friends. Mio was like a princess in Yoshino's eyes, and she was Mio's "knight in shining armor". For many people who knew them, it truly seemed like they would always be together.
This friendship, however, came to an abrupt and shocking end in their first year of high school. Having been a fan and practicing it since elementary school, Yoshino was a prominent member of her school's kendo club, with even senior members saying she was one of the best. For Yoshino's part, she had a major crush the kendo club's female captain, a senior named Etsuko Hino.
One day, while on her way to club with other members, including Etsuko, Yoshino was suddenly confronted by an extremely pissed-off Mio, who had heard some rumors (brought on due to a severe misunderstanding) that Yoshino was seeing her boyfriend behind her back. Despite her vehement denials, Mio refused to listen, and decided to take things a step too far by viciously outing her crush on Etsuko in front of everyone.
From there, the argument got even more venomous, culminating into a horrible ending; in the heat of the moment, Mio proceeded to give Yoshino a huge shove...only realizing after it was too late that she was standing directly at the top of some stairs. Everyone watched in horror as she went tumbling down the stairs, an especially sickening crunch echoing through the hall as she landed on her shoulder
Horrified by what she had done, Mio was the first to call for help, after which Setsuna was rushed to the hospital. The damage was bad; on top of a rather nasty concussion, the bones in her shoulder were practically shattered, and her knee had also taken taken a heavy blow as she tumbled down the stairs. Nothing life-threatening, but definitely severe enough to heavily impact the rest of her life.
The final nail in the coffin was when Etsuko visited her in the hospital; she was the only one in the club who hadn't done so yet, so Yoshino was happy to see her. But instead of a smile and well wishes, Etsuko greeted her with a scowl and a harsh message.
"I probably don't need to say this, but you're out of the club...also, don't ever come near me again...last thing I need is to be associated with a disgusting homo."
Needless to say, Yoshino didn't take it well. Even after she was out of the hospital, she suffered from severe depression, as the incident had (possibly permanently) crippled her shoulder and knee. Additionally, all of the kendo club members, on Etsuko's orders, had more or less cut ties with her. Last but not least, Mio, too ashamed to face Yoshino, left the school altogether. Yoshino never saw her again.
Between the time she missed and increasingly poor grades in class, Yoshino's teachers reluctantly informed her that she was going to have to repeat her first year of high school, the final bit of insult to injury in this whole mess. At that point, Yoshino just stopped going to school altogether; there was no point in going. At least not for the rest of that school year, which was still had a few months left.
With the help of some therapy (both physical and emotional), Yoshino had managed to make some progress in overcoming that incident. She'd still have a ways to go, but every little bit helped. One day, on a whim and unaware that her parents had a friend over, she went into the kitchen and, wanting to try something she'd seen on TV, started cooking something. And to everyone's surprise, it was extremely good.
Said friend, as it turned out, was a semi-famous restaurant owner in the area, and she saw some potential in Yoshino. At first, Yoshino was a little baffled (after all, she was only copying a recipe she'd seen on TV), but at the woman's request, she cooked some other things. There were some simple mistakes, but it was unmistakable; she had some natural talent as a chef. None were more surprised than Yoshino herself.
With her parents' blessing, she decided to take Yoshino under her wing and properly teach her how to cook. Not only did she take to it like a duck to water, but more than anything else, she was, for the first time in a long time, actually enjoying herself. That's when the woman made a suggestion; that Yoshino pursue a career in cooking and take classes at school the she herself graduated from; Fukui Academy.
At first, Yoshino was hesitant, and understandably so. It had all happened so fast that she wasn't sure what to think. Plus there was her arm and knee to consider. While she was able to cook well in spite of them, they still got in the way from time to time. But, after giving it some more thought, she decided. Maybe this was exactly the change of pace she'd need to break out of the funk she's been in.
She would have been lying if she said it wasn't an intimidating prospect; especially considering it would mean moving out of her home and living in a dorm with complete strangers. But in the end, it was all sounding too good to pass up. She wasn't exactly confident, nor was she sure how far she'd make it in a school like this. But it sure as hell beat moping around at home and not doing anything. - Family/Relatives

- Face Claim: Ryoko Ookami from Okami-san and Her Seven Companions - Yoshino Kanzaki (This will be taken from your profile once accepted and added to the FC list)
background - Grade Level: First (would have been a second year had she not been held back; rather than return to her old school, Yoshino instead decided to transfer into Fukui after discovering that she has a natural talent for cooking)
- Future Plans: Admittedly, Yoshino hasn't thought that far ahead. She mostly only came to Fukui because she was desperate for a change of pace. She'll probably pursue a career in cooking of some sort, but whether that means opening her own restaurant or simply working for someone else as a chef remains to be seen.
