When you think all is forsaken Listen to me now, you need never feel broken again Sometimes darkness can show you the light Minako Ishiyama Thirty · Female · Japanese · Sculpting Teacher - Hair: Long dark hair kept straight
- Eyes: Heavy lidded with a dark gold colored iris
- Face: A mature, feminine face. Beauty mark under her right eye
- Body: Trim feminine build with light skin. Stands about 5'6"
- Clothing: Usually pretty casual.
appearance - General: Minako gives off the impression of being a very serious person, but she's not as bad as first impressions might imply. She's a kind person, chill, and easy going. She's just low energy and doesn't appear excited or enthusiastic outwardly. But she's a good listener and very easy to talk to. She doesn't generally hate anything, but somethings do annoy her. Overall she has a high tolerance for bearing things though and it isn't too easy to provoke her. If you manage to anger her though, Minako can actually be pretty intimidating. Her silent glare holds a promise of pain that you do not want to experience.
Minako is a regular drinker and smoker. She wouldn't consider herself an alcoholic because she always stops herself before she starts losing control, but she's still an overall heavier drinker. She smokes everyday too, around four or five a day. If she's feeling stressed about something though she will start smoking more to compensate. She has smoked since she was a teenager and it's a habit that she has never been able to break, though she hasn't bothered to try in years.
Sculpting is her passion in life. When she sees material her mind immediately tries to figure out what it can become. She believes everything has a true form within it and it's a sculptor's job to bring that form out. She loves statues especially, and the bigger they are the better. As a child her dreams were to build the next Colossus statue and carve Mt. Fuji into a statue of some kind. For obvious reasons she never achieved either of these goals, but her love of the craft remains. She took the job at Fukui to help spread that passion to the young and try to guide them to follow their own passion. - Things Minako Enjoys

personality - History: Minako had shown a passion for sculpting from a young age. Her favorite toy was 'Fuwa Fuwa mousse' and things like it. She grew up in a poorer family and didn't have much. It also meant she grew up around rougher elements. Hitting her teen years, Minako started to become very rebellious and would hang out on the streets. She even joined a gang and those people became the center of her life. She would vandalize, cause trouble, shoplift, smoke, drink, and even get into fights with other gangs. She didn't do much with school, hating it and thinking it a waste of time. She scraped by her classes only bothering enough to get her parents off her back. Her street life was all she cared about and that was where her future lay as far as she was concerned. It didn't matter if it was dangerous or if she could end up in prison. It was all she had.
And then Minako met her. At the age of sixteen, it was the start of her second year of high school. And in her class was the most beautiful girl Minako had ever seen. Her name was Sayuri Nakatani and she was pretty much the exact opposite of Minako. She was sweet, well behaved, and had the best grades in class. Minako was smitten right away and started going to classes everyday just to see her. She wanted to talk to her too, but found herself getting very awkward at the prospect. She had never had issue talking to people before, but it was different with Sayuri. What she thought actually mattered. And what did a delinquent like Minako have to offer a girl like that? Instead, Minako just became something of a stalker and watched her from afar.
The answer to the question of what she could offer came eventually though. Protection. The beautiful Sayuri was very popular and drew a lot of attention from the next door boys school. One day while she was doing her stalking routine, three boys came over and cornered Sayuri. Minako recognized the leader. Kentaro Fujima was from a rival gang and had a reputation for being a cocky jerk who didn't take no for an answer. A visibly shaken Sayuri was all the reason Minako needed to stroll over there and confront the thugs. She jabbed a finger in his chest and demanded he back off. He knocked her hand away and started spouting a few choice words, but Minako hadn't waited for them to leave his mouth. Instead, the moment he was distracted with knocking her hand away, her other hand threw a straight jab to his face, catching him dead on the nose. A distinct crunching noise was heard and that was the end of any fight as Kentaro writhed in pain. Minako braced for his two cronies to jump in, and while they could have easily over powered her together, neither were keen on risking getting their nose broken over a girl that wasn't even going to be theirs. Instead, they helped up Kentaro and carried him off.
Now the hero, Minako got her chance to talk to Sayuri and offered to escort her around as protection. Sayuri agreed to it. They started chatting and as it turned out Sayuri had known Minako had been following her around the whole time, she had just been waiting for her to work up the courage to come say hello. The two seemed to form a strong connection quickly, both eager to learn more about the other. Sayuri even started requesting that Minako be her bodyguard while walking home from school, and then started calling her and asking her to escort her while she was out shopping. Minako thought she might be a bit too paranoid, but Sayuri never seemed paranoid or worried anyone was after her. In fact, she always seemed ecstatic and in a better mood then she had seen anyone in before in her life. And being with Sayuri made Minako feel happier than she had ever been before too. Minako even agreed to doing more school work when Sayuri offered to tutor her, just for an excuse to spend more time with her. As a result, her grades started rising steadily.
Then one evening, her gang contacted her because there was trouble. A rival gang was moving in on their turf and a fight was breaking out. Trusty baseball bat in hand, her weapon of choice, Minako went to help and got caught up in the battle. During the brawl, someone snuck up on her and got a free shot to the head. It was Kenjiro, nose cast and all. Once he saw who he had hit he took great pleasure in mocking and jeering her. It was when he stated all the things he was going to do with her 'pretty little girlfriend' that Minako snapped. He didn't expect such a quick swing so suddenly, but the bat caught him on the chin. He staggered, and then caught it him on the side of the head. This made him drop to the ground and Minako began swinging her bat on him with abandon. It was only when she noticed just how much blood there was that she finally stopped.
Fearing she had just killed someone, Minako ran. She took off straight to the one place she felt safest - with Sayuri. She arrived on her doorstep in tears and confessed the whole thing to her. She stayed there for the night, the two girl just laying in an embrace. The next day, they found out that Kenjiro had been found and was still alive, though severely wounded. He had lost a fair bit of blood, had bruises and lacerations all over his body, had several broken bones, and would likely never walk properly ever again for how shattered one of his knees was, but he was alive. He also never told anyone who did it, likely because his pride couldn't let him admit he was beaten to a pulp by a smaller girl, even if she did have a bat. It was a huge relief for Minako. She and Sayuri excitedly celebrated this and, caught up in the moment, Minako kissed her. And Sayuri kissed Minako back. It was like fireworks made into feeling. From that day on they became girlfriends officially and started dating.
Not wanting to end up in another situation like with Kenjiro, Minako dropped out of gang activity from that point forward. Instead she focused on school so she could make herself a better person for Sayuri. She also picked up sculpting, her old hobby, once again and the old passion she had felt for it was rekindled. Minako regretted not sticking with it over joining a gang, but now began working on refining her technique and making up for the lost years. With her new focus on school, Minako actually manage to graduate with good grades, a feat thought impossible based on her first year. But it was all thanks to Sayuri.
Their relationship caused more problems for Sayuri than it did for Minako. The latter didn't have any friends outside of her old gang, and they were now all furious at her for leaving. And whatever her parents might have thought about homosexuality was overridden by the fact that they both loved Sayuri and credited her with putting their daughter on the right track. She had even got her to cut back on things like smoking and drinking. Sayuri had more trouble with things, given she was so popular. Not only because she was dating a girl, but also because that girl had a rough reputation. It made Sayuri a bit sad and that made Minako feel guilty, though Sayuri never blamed her. She said she was perfectly happy with her choice and wouldn't let Minako beat up any of the people being jerks to her about it.
She didn't have to put up with it for too long though, as they were in collage soon enough. Life went on normally as Minako and Sayuri grew closer through their love and support for one another. They had a good two years of living the normal life of a couple before Sayuri started showing the signs. She was often tired despite plenty of rest and just became weaker and weaker. She was then diagnosed with a disease that had no cure that was slowly killing her. At twenty years old she was given about a year to live. to say they were shocked was an understatement. Faced with her ultimate fate, Sayuri tried to do her usual self-sacrificing and push Minako away. Minako did the opposite and proposed to her. It didn't matter how long she had left, Minako was going to stay with her the whole time. They applied for their special partnership certificate and quickly put together a small ceremony for them to enjoy. This was the closest thing to gay marriage allowed by Japan, but the symbolism was enough for the two, and it would allow Minako priority visiting rights to Sayuri while she was in the hospital.
They then spent most of their time trying to fill Sayuri's bucket list, but it became more and more difficult as she grew weaker. However, her year deadline came around and she was still alive, though by this point she was staying in the hospital pretty much permanently because she became tired and weak so quickly. Likewise Minako spent all of her time there with Sayuri. She would sculpt things for her and read to her, or they would just relax and watch a movie while cuddling. As Sayuri grew weaker, Minako started doing even more for her, even sometimes needing to feed her because she couldn't manage on her own. Despite her deteriorating strength, Sayuri survived around a year longer than she had been originally given. She passed away at the age of twenty-two while Minako held her hand.
After Sayuri died, Minako shut herself away from the world. She didn't have friends, Sayuri was one of the few things she'd had in life. All she had now was her art and she focused on it completely, devoting her time to study and practice. Anything to distract her from the pain. Her drinking and smoking picked up again and she pretty much gave up on life in general. She made money taking odd jobs sculpting this and that out of that and this. Dedicating all of her time to the craft allowed her to become very skilled in many different forms and with a large number of materials. Word of mouth actually got her some attention in the art world, granting her bigger commissions to work on. As the years passed, the pain in her heart dulled and she became more outgoing again, though she had mellowed out considerably from the cocky loudmouth she had once been. While pursuing work she found a school that was looking for a sculpting teacher. The irony of someone who used to avoid school as much as possible becoming a teacher was not lost on her, but she liked the idea of encouraging the next generation in their pursuit of art. Her wide range of skills and knowledge within the sculpting genre helped her secure the position. She moved to the nearby town and has been there for two years. - Family/Relatives
