In the hearts of the blind Something you'll never find Is a vision of light Marie Reisender Sixteen · Female · German/Japanese · Musician - Hair: Marie is raven-haired, with thick straight locks that come to rest in the small of her back. Her bangs are somewhat trimmed, and usually parted across her forehead, but there’s no practical reason to keep them out of her eyes so sometimes she just lets it fall where it will. There’s nothing really fancy about her hairstyle or how she takes care of it; she just cleans it and brushes it. That’s pretty much it.
- Eyes: Marie’s eyes are an icy blue (although that doesn’t really matter much at all to her), slightly slanted and set into her face a little deeper than you might expecy. Her eyes obviously don’t carry much emotion (if any at all), appearing dead to all the world around her. Of course she’s generally going to be wearing a pair of sunglasses, so there’s that. She claims that the reason for them is light sensitivity, but the underlying reason is that she finds it easier to interact with people when they can’t see wherever it is she isn’t looking. If she’s really pressured to do so, some blue eyeshadow is the most makeup she’ll ever wear. It’s also not entirely uncommon for there to be circles under her eyes, if she’s been having trouble sleeping.
- Face: You’d be hard-pressed to actually cut anything on it, but Marie’s face is quite sharp and angular-looking regardless, with a pointed chin and a forehead that’s slightly larger than average. Her thin lips are nearly always drawn in, and with her general pallor, people have often joked that she looks like she should be a creature of the night.
- Body: Standing at 6’ even, Marie is unusually tall, especially for her age. She doesn’t undertake any strength training when she remembers to exercise so she’s fairly thin, but her frame is wiry from aerobics and general physical exercise. Her weight tends to fluctuate slightly around a small margin, and this depends on her recent eating habits and if she’s been remembering to eat often enough. Her shoulders, while broader than most, are usually hunched down. Marie also has a smattering of scars across various parts of her body, some of which have a hard time standing out from her incredibly pale skin - each one a reminder of one antic or another from her childhood.
- Clothing: Marie’s fashion sense consisted of primarily dark and cool colors when she was younger, and she’s stuck with it well into her teenage years out of familiarity. She generally runs hot, so a common staple of her wardrobe are just simple short-sleeve shirts - she has a few with random graphics on them as gifts from her mother, such as a blue rose or a line of marching penguins, but primarily they’re solid colors. It has to drop down pretty far in temperature for her to bundle up, but when she does it’s usually in either a black zip-up jacket or a dark gray pull-over hoodie. She has numerous pairs of blue jeans and a few pairs of dark slacks, which she switches out with whenever the mood takes her. While she does have a very comfortable pair of beat-up old sneakers, she also has a pair of black high-lace boots that she takes good care of.
appearance - General: Marie was never a very warm individual even before losing her sight, but that incident didn’t really help her to foster any more positive thoughts than usual. Most people’s first impression of her would be that she’s shy and awkward, but really she’s just very reserved. She takes quickly to silence, alright with letting someone else carry the brunt of the conversation a good 95% of the time, but is also readily blunt and honest, speaking her mind whenever anyone asks her of it. If ever you’re looking for an unfiltered opinion, Marie’s your girl. That’s not to say that she’s callous, however; she generally doesn’t want to be intentionally mean to people, so if she senses some kind of reservation or negative reaction, chances are likely that she’ll apologize and back off. Apart from all that, Marie managed to inherit her father’s sense of humor - sarcasm, sardonic statements, dry wit. These are all her weapons.

- Your Own Section
- Marie is deathly afraid of losing her hearing and becoming even more closed off from the world around her
- While the reason why she came to Fukui is her skills with the violin and saxophone, that isn’t the limit of her musical inclination; she’d be embarrassed to sing in front of anyone however, and she’s also just now starting to teach herself the ukulele, even though she mostly just plucks at the strings right now.
- She’s also a little bit of an amateur impersonator, and she tries to hone that skill whenever she’s bored and remembers to practice.
- Marie is bilingual and possesses a small fascination for languages, being fluent in both German and Japanese. She knows a little more than a handful of phrases in Engllish, but she’s a little indecisive about what language she should look into next. Maybe French.
personality - History: Marie was born into a middle-class bilingual household as an only child, and she’s stayed one until this day, with both of her parents deciding that they’re not ready for another child. When she was younger she was brash, boisterous, and fiery, a small bundle of energy that few could hope to contain and even fewer tried to. While it lasted, she and her best friend Katsuo raised hell in their little neighborhood, always getting each other into trouble. The Bonnie & Clyde pair slowed down their antics a little bit when Marie hit her growth spurt, but after a short while things picked back up between them.
At one point during her schooling however, not long after going through puberty and finishing out her growth spurt, Marie was suddenly struck with a severe case of necrotizing scleritis. Before anyone could understand what was going on and attempt to treat it, the vast majority of her ocular nerves received extensive damage, leaving her almost completely blind save for a little bit of light sensitivity. Immediately Marie’s personality took a 180° turn as the girl withdrew into herself, not wanting to face the fear of trying to adjust to a life without eyes. During this time period Katsuo stopped visiting her - she never talked to him after that, but she reasons that he stopped because she had changed. Because now she was flawed.
This depression continued for weeks, bordering on months, before she rediscovered music. Robbed of her sight, she felt that music was a different experience to her now that was just waiting to be explored. Music didn’t care that you couldn’t touch it, couldn’t see it or taste it, music just was. Happy that their baby girl was finally coming out of her funk, her father started giving her casual lessons with his old saxophone that he’d played in his younger years, and Marie took to it like a fish to water. Shortly after that she picked up the violin, and that was that - whenever she wasn’t sleeping, eating, doing schoolwork or practicing languages, she was feverishly working at becoming better and better with her chosen two instruments.
Her transfer to Fukui wasn’t the result of some kind of emergency or her desire to go, but merely because her parents wanted the best for her and realized that she would have little chance for growth in their small community. After talking it over with them and having her mother fill out the paperwork, Marie agreed that it was a good idea and set out for the train with her father. - Family/Relatives

background - Grade Level: Second
- Future Plans: Marie’s end-goal as far as her career is concerned is to become recognized as a concert-level violinist and professional saxophonist. Which will have hurdles along the way, chiefly being that she obviously can’t read music, but whatever. She has no expectations romantically, with her only prior relationship being her childhood friendship, but on that note she’s got a very “what comes may come” kind of attitude.
