Friendship is unnecessary, like philosophy, like art... it has no survival value; rather is one of those things that give value to survival.
Yukari Urayama Sixteen · Japanese · Illustration (Mangaka) - Hair: Yukari's hair is a light brown, with messy bangs at the front that reach to her chest while the back reaches to her waist. It is often held in a ponytail with a black ribbon and a large white flower, a gift from a childhood friend.
- Eyes: Showing her constant curiosity, Yukari's light brown eyes seem to have a sort of excited sheen to them
- Face: Yukari has a very feminine face despite some sharp features. Still, her expressions are very clear to see on her face
- Body: Yukari stands at a relatively tall 171 cm and has a very thin build. Despite spending a good amount of time outdoors, she still has relateively pale skin.
- Clothing: Despite her curiosity in others. fashion was never much of an interest to Yukari, and she tends to stick to more simpler clothes, following her parents' example for not sticking out too much. She has no preference for skirts or pants, but for either she does prefer them to be worn long so long as they don't hamper her movement. Most of her clothes tend to stick to a monochrome theme, often black with white or silver trimming and details, however her friend Komachi has given her more and more elaborate outfits which keeps to her theme.
appearance - General: At her core, Yukari is a girl with an immensely empathetic heart that she happily wears on her sleeve. Blessed with a mind that is perhaps too fast for its own good and the ability to absorb information like a sponge, she strives to understand others and the nature of humanity in general. On her own, she can easily get lost in her own thoughts, pondering the secrets of the universe, burying her nose in her tablet and reading, or drawing whatever emotions come to mind. She enjoys a good mental challenge and is exceptionally skilled at lateral thinking. The result is that her mind is organized chaos, her thoughts decipherable only to herself and difficult to explain to others.
Outwardly, Yukari is very expressive. Her body constantly moves, swaying side to side, stepping to and fro, spinning in circles. If not her body, then her hands are always fiddling with something or tapping on a hard surface. And on her face, her current mood is easily visible. Inwardly, her emotions are even more intense, running alongside the many tracks of thought she has.
Yukari enjoys being around people, but her excessive and intense mind results in a rather strange paradox - as amiable and conversational as she is, her inability to sort out her mind in a manner that can be easily translated for most people resulted in her becoming selectively mute. In most social interactions, Yukari relies on her body to express how she feels or utilizes her tablet, drawing how she feels or when words are necessary, using it as a text-to-speech device. However, in more private settings and with people she trusts, Yukari can use her voice, speaking in a very eloquent and thoughtful manner, albeit with a very soft and quiet voice.

personality - History: Yukari's parents were unassuming, and they liked it that way. A meeting of unlikely circumstances, across the marketing and the R&D departments of a large pharmaceutical company. Instead of ruthless maneuvering, they climbed to the top by keeping their heads low and moving in on power vacuum left by less cautious colleagues, making a comfortable living for themselves.
Neither of them were particularly eccentric, which made Yukari's increasingly distracted personality a mystery to them. Her increasing inability to speak was passed off as shyness, even as it became more and more problematic. Her parents' successes came from flying under the radar, so they were very much unwilling to have a doctor look too closely at Yukari's condition lest it bring undue attention. Nevertheless, they loved their only daughter very much, happy to dote on her and satiate her curiosity.
Unfortunately, her peers in elementary school and the start of middle school weren't so kind; no one wanted to be with the ditzy girl who always seemed to talk funny. Thankfully, while tagging along with her parents, she came across one of her father's staff, a young man named Saito. Saito was, in many ways, like an older brother to her and while in elementary school, the only person she felt comfortable talking to. But because of his skills, Saito was moved to another office in Europe, and with the loss of the only person she could talk to, Yukari went mute entirely.
Although Yukari had shown prodigious skill in drawing at a very young age, it was after Saito moved away did she dive more into illustration. Her parents were happy to oblige, buying her reference materials and art supplies for her own self-study and improvement. Then, when Yukari started middle school, she chanced upon one Yuki Sonohara, and the two quickly bonded over their shared interest in human psychology. Yukari would be roped into Yuki's amateur detective club, where Yukari would enjoy putting her mind to use solving the mysteries, large and small, that cropped up around her school. At the same time, Yukari would start a few webcomics, publishing fictionalized versions of her adventures as well as observations and musing of her classmates.
Art as a career wasn't something Yukari considered seriously until her friend Misha told her of her plans to go to Fukui Academy. While Yukari never intended it, her webcomics did see some small success, so after gathering the vast amounts of illustrations she had made over the years, she compiled a portfolio and submitted it to Fukui with little expectations. Being accepted was a surprise and Yukari was hesitant at first, but her parents believed in her talents and a few of her friends would be also attending Fukui, meaning despite being at a new school far from Tokyo, she would not be alone. Thus, Yukari looked forward to a career as a mangaka.
