Just trust me, This is really going to w.. Heylookaspider! Yamana Mako SEVENTEEN · FEMALE · JAPANESE · STUDENT/ARTIST - Hair: Mako's hair is sort of long in length, creating a fairly feminine look just by how it cascades past her shoulders to her shoulder blades. It's a very dark blue in color which can appear either purple or black depending on the lighting in a given place. She keeps her bangs neatly cut so that she has an easier time seeing - as a child her hair was just all the same length. Now it's layered a bit to give it a fuller body, which she feels looks a lot nicer. She doesn't wear hair accessories because she doesn't think they suit her at all; however she has a hat her brother gave her which she wears somewhat often.
- Eyes: Mako's eyes are definitely a highlight of her somewhat childish face, large and purple in color. No matter how she might try to mask her true emotions a hint of how she really feels will come out through her highly expressive eyes. Often they are a barometer for her thoughts as well; even during assignments they'll show her feelings better than any facial expression she might make.
- Face: Mako's face is kind of round in shape with soft features that belie a certain childish appearance. Overall it fits her age, though she might be thought a little younger than reality. There would be no mistaking her for anything but a girl with the feminine look to her face, though, which she takes as a badge of pride.
- Body: Mako is a little on the short side for a girl her age, standing at just 5'4" with a slender build that neatly compliments her roommate and best friend. She's a bit underdeveloped physically which is a sore area for Mako, but there's only so much stuffing will do to make you look more mature. From a distance she's mistaken for a middle schooler more often than not.
- Clothing: Mako, like her secret crush, refuses to wear pants. She greatly prefers the feel of skirts swishing about her legs no matter the length as well as their obvious feminizing qualities. Though she likes cute outfits like her roommate she prefers dresses and skirts that fall a little closer to the knees; she has a scar on her upper right thigh which she doesn't want people seeing. Her uniform has a longer skirt, and when shorter skirts are requires she wears tights no matter the weather. Often she will wear a Japanese navy cap her brother gave her with nearly any outfit since she thinks it's quite cute.
appearance - General: Generally speaking Mako is just outgoing enough to be able to make small talk and coexist in a social environment consisting of peers her age. She's sometimes not sure what to say but is good at picking up cues from most others when it comes to shifts in topic and the like. Mako isn't very good at letting her emotions bottle up, so she can get carried away during emotional moments - almost melodramatic sometimes. Additionally she is easily flustered and tends to run all of her words together into a nearly incomprehensible mess when she's caught in a fib or admitting something she would rather not own up to. She's very dedicated to something once it's own her mind, both ideas as well as work and even people. Though a devoted friend she has a hard time with romantic feelings because of poor examples in her family - she's convinced they don't end well in reality, which is why romantic manga are so much better!
- Things Mako Enjoys
- Manga - like her roommate, she's a manga artist and loves to check out the work of her contemporaries/potential competition. Her preferences are for shoujo, romance, yuri and comedy stories.
- Sweets - she's got an unhealthy sweet tooth that drives her to make rather poor dietary decisions. However the right one can get her energized for just about anything.
- Nail polish - has a secret stash of it under her bed which she experiments with on weekends.
- Things Mako Hates
- Manga that are explicitly for fan service - she feels that it's a sacred art which must not fall into the trap of pandering to those who just want to see certain things. Especially if it means sacrificing the story.
- Humidity - it makes her really lethargic and unwilling to do anything creative.
- Her scar - Mako is extremely self-conscious about her scar and gets very nervous whenever the idea of swimming, hot springs or other things that require attire which won't cover it up is brought up.
- Mako's Habits
- Slamming words together when flustered.
- Tugging at her hair when nervous
- Looking to people she knows for inspiration on character design.
- Mako's Positive Traits
- Sociable
- Creative
- Affectionate
- Mako's Negative Traits
- Self-conscious about her appearance
- Easily flustered
- Avoids certain topics of conversation (who she likes, family, some feelings).
- Your Own Section
- Mako has had an insurmountable crush on her friend/roommate/colleague which she hasn't been able to admit. Based on her family experience she's hesitant to pursue it because it probably won't end well. She wants her crush to be happy no matter what.
- She'll blurt things out to change the topic suddenly if she stumbles into something she doesn't want to have noticed.
- Not only a manga artist, Mako also has some skill in voice work as well.
personality - History: Mako's family was the epitome of modern Japanese middle class-ness: dad is a salaryman, mom is a teacher. They live in a comfortable small house in semi-rural Japan, not really doing anything which screams at being remarkable. Behind the scenes the parents started bickering about even little things after their second child (Mako) was born. By the time she got into elementary school they hardly ever talked to each other without raising their voices. Mako started escaping the reality by reading romantic shoujo manga, feeling as if its fantasy was infinitely better than reality.
Eventually she took an interest in drawing, combining it with whatever ideas came to mind for stories. She'd stay at school for art club to avoid going home where there would only be arguments. Away from the disruptive home she honed her artwork and became quite talented. Mako submitted some of her work to a national contest run by a magazine, ended up winning and being contacted by the publisher just as she finished middle school. Since that time she has been publishing her work somewhat regularly under a pen name while attending Fukui on a scholarship her manager at the company helped set up.
It was at Fukui that she met Hana, a fellow artist whose talent she admired just as much as the girl herself. After meeting the two were inseparable; they had almost all the same classes so she was able to see Hana all the time. As they became best friends she felt a fluttering in her heart that shouldn't have been there. From all her experience in the field she knew it must be love.. but she has never been able to express it. What if it just falls apart like her parents' marriage? Despite her nervousness she's looking forward to being Hana's roommate this year.- Family/Relatives
- Yamana Soujiro (father, salaryman), Yamana Fujiko (mother, teacher)
- Yamana Daiki (older brother, JMSDF officer)
- Face Claim: Akatsuki from Kantai Collection - yourCharacterFullName (This will be taken from your profile once accepted and added to the FC list)
background - Grade Level: Third Year
- Future Plans: Mako wants to see one of her projects turned into an anime and hopefully do some voice acting for it to boot. She'd also be fine doing the voice work for Hana's work if it becomes animated. Ideally she'd like to be with Hana as girlfriends and live together happily ever after.
