Not wanting to disappoint her family, she tries her best to adhere to the rules set out for her. On the surface she is calm and level headed, smiling pleasantly and capable of carrying on a conversation without issue. Inside however, she is depressed and feels trapped by her entire life with no hope of escape. While polite and talkative when engaged, Kyoko is very guarded of letting people get too close to her. She knows she'll only lose any friends she might make and protects herself from the pain of that when she inevitably is forced into marriage. She is also worried that letting anyone in close might let them catch a glimpse of her inner turmoil. Everything about herself she has locked away within the depths of her heart. personality - History: Kyoko Kitamura was born the eldest child of a wealthy business CEO and to a family of very strict traditional values. The males of the family had the power and as a daughter she was taught her 'place' from a young age. She was to be proper and polite, sweet and pleasant; to do as she was told without argument. Her family was so heavily into this mindset that when her brother was born he was considered her superior in the family despite being younger. Kyoko's mother, Haruka, was a perfect example of what she was suppose to become. She ran the house like a machine for her husband so that everything was clean and pristine when he got home to be served dinner. Haruka was Kyoko's primary instructor on the ways she was suppose to act for the rest of her life. Success was met with no reward as it was what was expected of her while failure was scolded. The scoldings happened often. Her family had accepted this life style for years, yet Kyoko found herself to be something different.
She hated it. False smiles to her father's business associates when they visited as she served them tea and snacks, then getting yelled at if she made any sort of tiny mistake because of whatever minor damage it might cause to her father's image. Everything had to be perfect. During family events with the company she had to be constantly prim and proper for hours on end. Public image was very important in her family and Kyoko felt pressured to adhere to this mandate. Kyoko once asked her mother if she enjoyed her life. Her mother told her she was perfectly happy serving the family and that Kyoko would see that one day. She didn't scold Kyoko for questioning things that day, but her tone did leave the impression that further questions would be unwise.
Thus young Kyoko resigned herself to her fate and did her best to please her father's wishes. Her life wasn't all bad though. In school it was discovered she had some talent for painting and it managed to earn her some praise from her father when he used her to from a connection with a prominent and otherwise well connected artist. Though the praise was more about the door she had opened for him then her actual art, having her father in a good mood was always better then him being angry because she had shamed him in some way.
Shifting into her teen years, Kyoko had gotten very good at playing her part. She was an obedient daughter that did what was expected of her. However, despite what her mother had said, deep down she still hated it. She buried this side of herself but couldn't help wondering if this was all there truly was to life. More restrictions were placed on her as she hit this stage in her life. One of which being an explicit 'no boys' rule, barring even simple friendship with boys to prevent temptation. It was something of an odd conversation for Kyoko since she really didn't have any interest in boys and she wondered if she was suppose to. She did notice a change starting in how she saw other girls though and wondered why that had never come up. Those feelings only got stronger while she felt nothing of the sort toward the boys. Kyoko knew this was not something that would be approved by her family and pretended she never felt anything of the sort. Those feelings were buried deep with her other doubts and she continued to wear her family approved mask.
Having conquered the business world, Kyoko's father set his sights higher and started dipping into the political scene. He made connections and got in good with a politician of decent prestige. Kyoko then found herself a bargaining chip for her father, who informed her of the possibility that she would end up betrothed to the politician's son who was just a couple of years older than she was. Kyoko smiled and made no argument to the plan, stating she would do as she was told like she was suppose to, but on the inside she was a hurricane of emotion. Kyoko met Takahiro when his family was invited over and she was presented to him as what felt like merchandise. Kyoko was sweet and pleasant as required, but Takahiro acted more like he was shopping for a decoration for his house. He gave a vague approval and thus the possibility of this being the person she spent the rest of her life with was officially on the table, and seeming very likely given how well their fathers seemed to be getting along. The idea of this only depressed Kyoko more.
At this point, high school education was considered unimportant for Kyoko. She was going to be a housewife and already knew what she needed to for that position. She was still suppose to be seen as respectable though, so as not to bring shame to the family and needed to go to a good school. Her father informed Kyoko that she would be attending Fukui Academy. It was a school that focused more on art programs, allowing her to get by with her painting skills. It had enough credibility to maintain respectability, and to top it off it was an all girls school so there were no pesky boys around to try and tempt Kyoko. Kyoko herself had no say in the matter, her father simply made the decision and signed her up, paying for the tuition himself. The teen simply thanked him for his generosity and left it at that. She supposed it could have been worse, but that didn't mean she knew what to make of this decision. Still, all she could do was attend her father's choice of school until it was time to marry her father's choice of husband for her, at which point her father would hand her over to another man who would own her entire life. Such seemed to be her fate, to simply follow along the path set before her by others, never deviating toward something that might actually make her feel truly happy. - Family/Relatives
