Even though she’d visited before and learned the general lay of the land, so to speak, arriving at Fukui as a new student and with her luggage in tow left her with just the tiniest little twinge of anxiety in the pit of her stomach. Her parents had obviously offered to come with her to help her settle in, but she’d graciously shot that down before the suggestion had gone anywhere serious. It certainly would have been helpful having two familiar pairs of eyes to help her adjust everything, but if they truly wanted her to grow into a strong and independent young woman, then the line had to be drawn somewhere.
Which led to her trudging along down the hallways of the dormitories, ears perking up for all of the ambient conversations around her of other new arrivals settling in, with her eyes shaded by her trust sunglasses. And since she was just getting here and technically wasn’t going to school right that moment, she’d taken the opportunity to visit the more dressed-down portion of her wardrobe; a sleeveless black tanktop and a pair of well-fit blue jeans, with her hair loosely tied back. There was somewhat of a chilly breeze outside earlier which probably meant that she’d gotten some odd looks, but Marie was used to those kinds of looks.
A member of school staff had met her at the gate and been helpful enough to procure her a small dolly, which she was very appreciative of - she only had two bags of luggage, but dragging along both of them would have meant not having a free hand to guide her way. Her folding cane outstretched and tapping along the ground in front of her, she made careful note to count how many rooms she passed before arriving at the one that she was 100% was her assigned room. A probing tap revealed that the door was open, but she hadn’t heard anything out of the room as of yet. Maybe someone had gone back for more of their bags, or they’d dropped everything off and rushed out to do something else?
Sitting the dolly upright (and making sure her luggage wouldn’t topple over), she placed her free hand on the edge of the doorframe before leaning her head around the corner. “Hello? Anybody home?”
