i am not interested in fulfilling borrowed dreams ❝ Komachi chuckled about the notion of power going to people's heads. She was well aware of that from her nosy nosings into the family business, but it seems like the sly implication that the tailor's seniors had gone AWOL went over Valerie's head. Not that Komachi minded, or really cared; all of that was thrown into oblivion at the sound of the buzzer. Food was ready, and Komachi could barely keep herself seated, held by only by one last surge of adrenaline. "I think your cooking is good enough that more butter won't be needed," Komachi quipped, winking and grinning at the green-haired girl before watching the potatoes get pulled out of the oven. As hungry as she was, she looked upon the loaded tubers with surprise at their size; this was definitely something that Komachi would have to pack leftovers for. But first they would need to eat. Not wanting to feel like a freeloader, Komachi managed to summon enough strength to keep herself stable as she hastily pulled together some paper plates and plastic cutlery that were lying around in a nearby cupboard. "Yeah...erm, sorry for the rather poor table setting," Komachi said as she sat back down, overshooting the chair a bit and nearly falling off. "Not exactly the most deserving of your wonderful cooking, I'd have probably rummaged for something better if I wasn't too dizzy and..." There was a chuckle as Komachi shook her head. "Well, I owe you one. Thanks. I mean, I really do appreciate you doing this for me." Now that she thought of it, Valerie really was the first real friend she had made so far at Fukui. The tailor's eyes seemed to unfocus and glaze over as her mind walked down memory lane, to all the meals she had been roped into by her friend Yuki and her family. But the smell of food had wafted towards the brunette's direction, snapping her out of her trance. She nodded to Valerie, saying, "...after you?"

i am a flower quickly fading Fair, fair, she even giggled a little. Besides, American cooking had a nasty little tendency to be fattening. As well as quantity. Honestly, she herself had initially had a bit of difficulty adjusting to the smaller portion sizes. Taking one fork and a knife, she mashed some of the contents into the potatos to get it all ready to eat. Though she'd been watching Komachi like a hawk while she was up; she didn't want her to collapse again.
It took just a few moments for her to finish it, before gingerly picking up the plate, and placing it and a drink in front of her friend. Perhaps thankfully in this case, Valerie had opted to include the aforementioned generous portion sizes Americans were known for. Though it was mostly because she was half surprised with Komachi's reactions that the heiress wasn't skin and bones.
"Here you go." she mentioned, before repeating the process - though she herself made sure to add plenty of butter. Comfort food was a specialty for her; she'd often needed it back home, and rarely had anyone objected. "Potatoes are a staple back home, you know." she mentioned, pointing out an idle trivia fact about her home country.
She smiled, "It's no trouble for a friend." she explained, smiling back. She blushed a little, "My cooking. Well. I wouldn't call it wonderful, so much as a necessity. Especially here, where there's people who treat it... well, it is an art form to them." And she wouldn't argue that it was.

i am not interested in fulfilling borrowed dreams ❝ Woah, those were some large portions and the shock of it was enough to dull the dizziness. Even as hungry as Komachi was, she wondered if she could finish it all - it would be rude if she couldn't, so the tailor did what she always did, and dove right it, but not before saying a cheerful "Itadakimasu!" Each mouthful Komachi ate seemed to restore a little bit of her vigour and keep the pain in her shoulder away just a little bit longer, all the way until she made it halfway through her serving when she leaned back into her seat and sighed. "Ah...that was good..." the tailor said earnestly, looking to Valerie with a smile. "Sorry, I know I haven't eaten much recently, but you'll have to forgive me for slowing down now." Komachi looked down at her plate again. "Three younger siblings and parents, was it? Well, you sure know how to cook for a large family all in one go. Still, I think you can give the girls in the Culinary Arts department a run for their money." There was a vacant blink of the eyes followed by a shake of the head. "Right. That doesn't make sense. Goes to show that physically being okay doesn't always mean mentally too." With a silly grin, Komachi tapped the side of her head. There was an amused huff as a realization hit her at the same time as her hand. "This is the second time you've saved my butt and with food to boot you know?" Komachi said, her silly grin fading. "I gotta repay the favor somehow."

i am a flower quickly fading The portions sizes were, of course, based on an American's view of what it would take to sate 'basically starving'. It was a lot, even by her standards. So once she got a second view of it, she understood why Komachi had the reaction she did. A bit of American dining standards showed through, and despite only being as hungry as she usually did. That being said, she ate relatively quickly, somewhat encouraged by her friend's pace.
Valerie laid her fork on her plate, as her friend began speaking once again. She'd made considerable progress into her own dish, though. She smiled, as Komachi apologized, she nodded, "... Which brings up another aspect of American cooking: if there's enough left, it can always be lunch the next day." There was enough for that, by the looks of it, but not enough for the fabled 3 meal dish. Though it wasn't like Komachi didn't have the money to where she could afford to waste a little food - not that Komachi would.
She blushed just slightly when she was compliment, taking a demure posture, "T-thank you. I'm not sure I'm that good though." You know what she said, everything tastes better when you're hungry. She was a good cook, but she was not a chef.
And then, there was the issue of repayment. She at first thought to demurely reject the offer, but Komachi was Komachi. She had to find something, "I mean, I can't think of anything at the moment. But... well, I suppose we should just watch out for each other."

i am not interested in fulfilling borrowed dreams ❝ Komachi chuckled as she saw Valerie blush, resting elbow on the table and her chin on her palm with a grin. It was incredible to see such a turnaround from the stern taskmaster the tailor saw during rehearsals. It was actually rather cute and Komachi had to stop herself from staring. Thankfully, the green-haired girl gave Komachi something else to think about, even though it left her preplexed and tapping on her own cheek in an attempt to drum up an answer. "Watch out?" Komachi eventually echoed. "Well, I'm not entirely sure what you mean by that. I mean, back in middle school, that often meant running to the aid whoever got into trouble, trouble usually meaning some ne'er-do-go causing...trouble. And that often ended up with Miharu or Yuki getting into a brawl if Hikari wasn't able to defuse things with her silver tongue..." Nostalgia distracted Komachi for a bit, but she sat up properly afterwards and looked Valerie in the eye, taking the matter at hand rather seriously. "Of course, people like that are rare in Fukui. I know better than to throw my weight around like I used to. So, really what does that leave me?" the tailor asked, starting to sound melancholy. "Not like I can't take care of myself or others. Sure, I can help out with what I can at the rehearsals, but really, I'd rather our relationship not be totally defined by work, you know? Actually..." Melacholy faded fast and was replaced by a grin on Komachi's face. The dark-haired girl leaned forward as she spoke. "Hey, I have an idea. Like, when are you free this weekend? As in, you're off your shifts and stuffs. Actually, let me start at some place else." Excitment built in the tailor's voice and was starting to get the better of her as her mind starting running a mile a minute. "So, a friend of mine told me of this bookstore and curio shop at the other side of town, called Select Fantasia. Well, it was just a bookstore at first, but the curio shop opened up recently in another wing." Komachi paused mid-sentence as she caught herself going on a tangent. She cleared her through before continuing. "...right. It was an old western mansion that got converted. In any case, I'm sorta curious about it. I mean, it's probably nothing related to our fields of study or our work, but I thought, hey, it's some place that's a bit away from here yet not too far, and sorta eccentric and maybe we can get some creative inspiration. And maybe lunch too. I have no idea what's around, but hey, exploring is fun, right?"

i am a flower quickly fading Valerie listened to her friend wax nostalgic about her and her friends' past zany antics that sounded like something out of a slice of life anime, rather than real life. Her mind went back to her siblings more... zany actions. Zany usually meaning either her or her parents (mostly her) had to actually talk to one of the teachers. Though her stories were fond memories only of nostalgia, and she was aware of that - for anyone else, and to her memory they, the stories were stressful. There was a tinge of jealousy, but she quickly dismissed it, opting to talk on the subject of Komachi's past instead, "Maybe you should write that down in a book." she told her, "It sounded like you and your friends got into quite a bit.
She passively crossed her arms, "But I meant more for the wellbeing of each other. And... that would be one way to." She explained. But not defined entirely by work. It was plain in theory, but most of her relationships involved work to some extent, at least in her past. In some ways, it was intuitive, but all the same there'd be an element unfamiliarity in going to mall or whatever else. And whatever else was apparently a zany adventure.
A converted old western mansion. Huh. She thought she saw something like that in the past, something she mostly remembered because, well, it's style was more familiar to her. She paused for a moment, cautiously saying, "Yes, that does sound fun." Her pose relaxed for just a moment as she let her arms down, smiling a bit, but tossing in.
"But... I'm not so sure how the owner would feel. I would rather not get caught trespassing." she told her. She couldn't afford to get into trouble with the police. It would be relatively minor, just 'meddling kids' tier, but she didn't know if that could threaten her student visa. She wasn't as keenly aware of Japanese law in that regard as might have been best.

i am not interested in fulfilling borrowed dreams ❝ A book? Komachi, as well as her other friends, had always mused they could make a decent story out of their adventures, but the only author Komachi knew wasn't interested, even though she was a mystery novelist and the rest were happy to immortalize their adventures in their "after-action reports". Though, when Komachi thought back on them, she nearly cringed. Sure, there was a lot of effort poured into those 'reports' to make them as authentic as possible, what with Yuki's mother being a police officer and all, but in retrospect, the play-acting came across as embarrassing to the heiress. In any case, the tailor nodded as the green-haired girl clarified what she meant by taking care of each other. Komachi feared it would be more like how Valerie was taking care of her now; the seamstress wasn't lacking in any skill, even though she had no siblings to take care of, so it was more a crisis of confidence. The question was, perhaps, how could she ever stack up to Valerie's level of diligence and skill. But that was a question to answer another time, as Komachi looked at the green-haired girl with a confused expression before the latter girl's worries finally processed. "Ahaha~" Komachi laughed heartily before swaying lightly from a short spell of dizziness. Though the food had statiated her hunger, Komachi's fatigue still remained. She shook her head to shake off the feeling before looking at Valerie with a smile. "Don't worry, I wasn't thinking of doing any breaking-and-entering. Even back with I was in middle school we never really did that. Skirted the line with what we were allowed to do? Stretched out authority a bit? Hmmm... yes. But never full-on intrusion. No actual rule breaking." There was a sigh before Komachi calmed down again, a bit of earnest worry creeping into her smile. "Like I said, we go to the book store, the curio shop, just look around, no need to buy anything. Just...the two of us, hanging out, you know? I mean, doesn't have to be the bookstore. Just someplace where we're not worrying about school work or work work or...you know. I just...don't know what kind of places you like to go, or...really much about you in general, so...gotta try something right?"

i am a flower quickly fading Valerie was concerned when she saw her friend was still fatigued She briefly wondered if there was something going on beyond near fatigue. If Komachi had some medical issue, she'd tell her, right? Pride and arrogance weren't the same thing, and a part of her could see Komachi hiding such information from her out of pride.
"I suppose it takes a while to digest." she says, audibly concerned, "Still, aside from fatigue, is there anything else that feels wrong? You're not running a fever or something, are you?" She took a good look at her, checking her cheeks for redness. Her fingers tapped on the table, fidgeting slightly with subdued concern.
As Komachi began to talk again, Valerie's posture relaxed slightly, as she listened, "Well, that does sound lovely." She gave a slightly worried smile, "Count me in some time. I'm perfectly fine with window shopping - doesn't cost me a penny... err... yen." She agreed, blushling lightly for a split second.
"And I'd be more than happy to check out that manor with you as well." she mentioned, "Though I think you honestly need some rest. Would you like me to help make sure you get back to your dorm room alright?"

i am not interested in fulfilling borrowed dreams ❝ Thankfully, there was no redness on Komachi's face, only the dark circles of barely-enough sleep under her eyes. The tailor emphaticially shook her head, though it was perhaps not the best of ideas as the force caused one more spell of dizziness. "No, no fever, just...overworked, I'm sorry..." Komachi replied in a soft, almost whispery voice as she held a hand to her head. She had a smile on, but it wasn't the usual reckless and energetic on, but more apologetic. "It's okay, Belrose-san. I'll be okay. Thank you." The dark-haired girl sighed a bit and thought on her friend's offer. If it was just her pride driving her, Komachi would have emphatically rejected Valerie's offer to walk her back to her room, that is if she hadn't already stormed out by then. But this time, there was an odd feeling of disappointment, disappointment that at least for today, she wouldn't be able to talk to the green-haired girl for much longer. And so she came to a compromise. "...I don't mind you walking with me for a bit longer, I m-mean, talking to me. R-right." Komachi chuckled nervously over her slip up. "As long as you don't mind hashing out the last bits of our trip? Or...helping out, l-letting me help out with the cleanup here? And your food was really good, Belrose-san. Thank you..." Komachi slowly got out of her seat, taking a deep breath as the moment of weakness passed, then looked to Valerie again. With a nod, the clothier took a step, but stumbled, and out of reflex, reached out to Valerie.

i am a flower quickly fading Valerie could practically see the dizzy spell in Komachi's eyes, and the dark bags under them hinted that there was more to it than hunger. The girl bit her lower lip, refraining from saying to Komachi that she ought to take better care of herself. Komachi was a hard worker, and had inherited what she perceived to be her father's strong work ethic. Every exhausted breath the heiress took tugged at her motherly instincts a bit. Or perhaps knowing the feeling of exhaustion all too well herself.
She internally breathed a sigh of relief when Komachi once again accepted her help. She nods, "Of course." she mentioned. As long as she could keep Komachi away from anything sharp. Or in a position where she could easily break things. Maybe help with washing the dishes? The short distance from her hand to the sink wouldn't let her break anything. And you didn't have to be super precise with scrubbing.
She offered her hand, as she helped Komachi up from her chair. She was about to lead her to the sink, where things were unlikely to go wrong, before Komachi had her moment of weakness and stumbled. The aspiring producer stumbled a bit herself, though she retained enough balance to keep from falling. Komachi would feel a small pull, as she did her best to keep her up.
"If you're still up for helping clean up." she mentioned, "We do have some dishes. We'll have to scrub the pots and pans, though we can at least just put the utensils and dishes in the dishwasher." she explained. She felt a bit of a pit in her stomach as she said that. but she doubted that Komachi would easily take any more hits to her pride. As long as she could keep her from anything sharp, she'd consider this effort a success.

i am not interested in fulfilling borrowed dreams ❝ There was a grin on Komachi's face as she felt Valerie help her up. There was something nostalgic about this feeling, of the many adventures she had with her middle school friends. The tailor half expected to see Yuki's face when she steadied herself, yet seeing the green-haired girl was just as comforting. Komachi gave Valerie's hand a slow and acknowledging squeeze before letting go and looking towards the pots and the sink. "Yeah, I can do that." Komachi said with a nod as an excited grin returned her to face. The prospect of still being able to chat with Valerie, even just a moment longer, seemed to have given the tailor another lease of strength, albeit clearly trying to overcome her fatigue by sheer force of will as she nearly ran over to the sink to start washing. Though she knew that she shouldn't be delaying bedtime, Komachi seemed to be rather thorough instead of rushing. "So...this weekend? Does that sound good to you?" Komachi asked as she started to put the cookware on the drying rack, adding, "I feel sorta awkward asking you when your shifts are and all. I don't want to come off as a stalker, or anything." An honest chuckle escaped the clotheir's lips, as if she was relieved. "I mean...I'm pretty free for the weekend. That is...all my other projects, I can move around when I work on them. In other words...I'll make time for you." The last of the cookware was nestled into the drying rack, and Komachi gave Valerie another smile.

i am a flower quickly fading Valerie made a point of moving quickly to wash the dishes, knowing that Komachi's strength was fading, despite her apparent burst of energy - loathe as she knew the heiress was to admit it. She almost cut herself once, slowing down as she worked with the knives. She took a deep breath - looks like Komachi wasn't the only one who needed to pay better attention to her wellbeing.
"That sounds good to me." she explained, with nod, "Provided, of course, you make sure to rest well enough. One good night's sleep and meal won't be enough to fully recover, so make sure you're taking care of yourself in the mean time." She mentioned, her voice showing concern. At this point, it would be hard for her to properly rest herself, since she'd be worried about her friend's health a bit.
"I'll make sure to email you my shifts then - I do take weekends off, mind." she explained, as she dried her dishwater-wrinkled hands on a paper towel. In truth, she only did that because she felt like she was supposed to. That was what normal people got to do, right? In truth, she wasn't very good at figuring out how to spend that time. She gave her a smile back.

i am not interested in fulfilling borrowed dreams ❝ "Sounds like a plan..." Komachi replied, nodding with a excited smile despite how tired she was. But the smile faded awkwardly, now that she didn't know what to say or do now. Rest was definitely a good idea. But something compelled her to stay around. Or was it a creeping anxiety that was starting to settle in? Maybe, just maybe, the tailor reasoned, she was just very very tired and her sense of judgement was getting fuzzy. "Uhmm...R-Right...well. I'll see you soon then...?" Komachi asked. She leaned backwards, even taking a single step back to walk backwards towards the door, but froze. A moment, later, she walked over to Valerie, moving her arms slowly in a wide arc to give Valerie a hug. "A-and...thank you for...the food and...taking care of...m-me..." The dark-haired girl stuttered through the hug, then let go, a tired grin now on her face. "So...just send me your schedule, I'll figure out a time, and...it's a date!" Although Komachi used the word 'date', she didn't mean to put much meaning in the word, at least not on a conscious level. Walking backwards again, she waved to Valerie before turning and jogging off to her room.
