personality - History: It all started with a business trip. Natsuko flew over to the U.S.A. to make business propositions to an American branch. It was during these meetings that she met Robert Langston. The two flirted and had a one night stand. Despite their use of protection, Natsuko still ended up pregnant. Wanting to try to do the 'right' thing, they got married. Natsuko gave birth to a baby girl who was named Rachel after Robert's mother. And thus started the life of Rachel Langston-Sumida.
Her parents marriage was doomed from the start. It turned out that aside from their mutual attraction, they had nothing in common. That on top of work issues and arguing over which country they should ultimately live in caused their already weak relationship to crumble. They managed five stressful years before Natsuko caught Robert having an affair and officially ended it. Rachel had grown up all this time with her constantly bickering parents in the States. Natsuko got custody and moved back to Japan. She had Rachel stop using the Langston part of her name so she'd fit in better and Rachel entered into a new life in what was essentially a completely different world.
Rachel had learned both English and Japanese growing up, so that part was easy to adapt to. Getting used to everyone using the Japanese pronunciation of her name (Reicheru) took a bit but she managed, however trying to acclimate herself as a whole was difficult. She didn't fit in well with the new environment and keeping up with the different customs and way of doing things. At home, her mother-the-workaholic paid her little attention as always as she wanted to make up for lost time in her career and Rachel barely ever heard from her dad. She began acting out for attention in school, causing problems and getting in trouble. She also discovered it was kind of fun. Making random sounds when the teacher tried to talk? Fun! Impromptu finger painting on the walls? Fun! It didn't really matter if she got in trouble because she had a laugh in the process. It was nice to laugh for once.
In her junior high years, Rachel began listening to a lot of metal and rock music. Partly because it was awesome, and partly because her mom hated it. Then when her mom went on a buisness trip for a few weeks, Rachel used her grocery money to buy a bass guitar (and lived off cheap instant ramen the whole time). She played with it constantly and got pretty good. When she was to start looking into high schools, it was then she discovered one for the arts and that included all forms of music. The idea of going to high school with a major in playing bass guitar was too good to pass up so she applied there. Her mother was just happy she had decided to go anywhere. Rachel was accepted to Fukui and moved into the dorms there.
Despite going to school for something she actually liked, that didn't really stop her behavior. She still sought out her fun and still caused trouble when she got bored. She earned herself a reputation as the school delinquent. She was also very flirty with the other girls and earned herself a reputation in that regard too, but it never seemed to bother her. In fact, it only seemed to spur her on. She and the now former student council president who graduated last year had quite the rivalry going throughout their time in school together. Rachel did all she could to piss her off and many a lecture as a result. Students used to stop and watch when they interacted with each other, sure there would be something to gossip about later on. It was always a good show. Now that she's in her fourth year though, the old president is gone and she lost her favorite plaything. So the question was, what would she get up to this year and who would get dragged along with her? - Family/Relatives
