Stories were passed down through oral tradition long before they were written down. For the longest time, people never saw the words of the stories, but those stories had an incredible impact nonetheless.
Yumeko Nakano
Fourteen · Female · Japanese · Writing (Novels)
- Hair: Thick, black hair, reaching to her shoulders. The front bangs are a bit uneven, but the side and back are cut straight. It's surprisingly well-kept.
- Eyes: The eyes have black irises but are slightly clouded; they may not seem to shine in the light. Most of the time, she keeps her eyes closed.
- Face: The face is very petite and feminine. Her complexion is quite pale but not ghostly, still contrasting with her black hair. Her resting expression is a content smile. With her eyes open, it is not uncommon for people to think she's older than she is due to her calm sage-like expression
- Body: Standing at 4'11'' and a slim build, she can be called rather "tiny". She's not very strong, but is rather precise with her movements. Her stature lets her be rather inconspicuous
- Clothing: Prefers simple clothing that is easy to put on and does not catch on random objects. Also likes long sleeves and long dresses and pants, due to growing up in a colder area, and a preference for darker colors, preferring not to stand out.
appearance - General: At the very least Yumeko is cordial to others, and does enjoy talking to people (or rather, listening so that she can gather writing material), but has difficulty trusting people at times. However, once the trust is earned, she is quite loyal, willing to drop what she's doing to help others. Among trusted fellows, she's much more relaxed and even snarky.
Although she tries to take her blindness disability in stride, she still tries to hide it when she is not among people she trusts, due to bullying issues encountered in middle school. She aims to appear like any other student and will attempt to keep her eyes open and look at whoever is speaking and will attempt to walk around without her cane and use sound alone. Unfortunately results do vary and it is very draining on her energy. She sometimes refuses help from others, even if it is more polite to accept. Overall, she tries to keep a low profile without being asocial.

personality - History: Yumeko was born in Sapporo, Hokkaido, to a photographer father and a journalist mother, both working for the same newspaper. Although she was blind since birth, it wasn't until her fifth birthday did she learn about her disability, and it took another year for her to fully accept it. Despite that, she was enamored with her parents work, especially her mother's, and would enjoy listening to her stories, fictional and of current events. With neither herself nor her family wanting her to fall behind her peers, she quickly picked up braille and took advantage of computers, learning how to read and write by listening to and copying her mother's articles.
Elementary school and middle school was problematic. Not only was it difficult for Yumeko to navigate unfamiliar locations, the stress of bullying from her peers resulting in her withdrawing inwards, letting herself be immersed in various literary worlds. While she enjoyed the escape, Yumeko was more drawn to more realistic settings and the mystery and thriller genre, due to being introduced to the Nancy Drew novel series by one of her cousins. Fortunately, intervention from her parents and cousins prevented her from locking herself into her own mental world, encouraging her to write what goes on in her head. Throughout middle school, Yumeko sharpened her writing skills, self-publishing various mystery novels under the pen name of "Traumerei". Though they never got much exposure, it was still practice that she enjoyed. At first, Yumeko was hesitant to attend Fukui despite being the best choice to hone her writing skills, due to having to reacclimate to a new setting, but agreed once she heard there was still family nearby.
