All the little things that we could be I feel you in every heart beat Were you ever in a dream that could come true? Aika Nakano TWENTY FIVE · FEMALE · JAPANESE · P.E. TEACHER - Hair: Aika has straight, shoulder-length hair, light brown hair, with short, straight bangs. She often styles a braid on the left side of her head.
- Eyes: Expressive, bright green eyes.
- Face: Aika has rosy skin that is quick to flush, and a heart-shaped face. She has a thin nose. She also dimples a lot.
- Body: At 5'3" Aika is about average height, with a slender build barring some curvature along her chest, waist and legs.
- Clothing: She tends to dress in bohemian clothes, with complex knit sweaters and long, sweeping skirts, and puts a good bit of effort in coordinating her outfits. Sometimes she can skirt boho and nudge her way into ‘old woman’, though, and she’s been known to waltz into class in a strikingly granny-ish floral dress or two. For physical activity, she sports a classic gray tracksuit.
appearance - General: The slightly eccentric P.E. teacher, Aika never swears, talks a bit like an old woman, and seems to prefer yoga and meditation to more ‘traditional’ P.E. activities. She tends to present a relaxed, genial demeanour to most people, and tends to get very smiley when trying to charm other people. On the other hand, she tends to not say what she means around people she doesn’t care for. She’s aware it’s a bad thing to do, but her spoiled nature makes it hard for her to resist. Despite her seeming sweetness, she’s open to a variety of relationships, and can even crack an offbeat piece of snark or five when the time is right.
Aika is interested in a variety of 'new age' arts. From tarot to crystal healing to plain old meditation. She doesn't really believe in them, really, but she does believe that they can help. Her P.E. practices usually involve things that are far from... traditional. Yoga is a go-to. Meditation is up there, as well. Generally, she's a chill and weird wacky woman who strays off the beaten path, whether she wants to or not.

personality - History: Aika was born in the ageing Aijima Island. As the only child out of the island’s forty-odd residents she was spoiled ferociously. She ate her favourite foods for dinner, as often as not; got (cheap, but still) toys and games on a near-weekly basis; and was treated like a niece by dozens of old folks. With her father as the captain of the only local ferry, and her mother a fervent cleaner of the local shrine and occasional tourist guide, Aika spent a lot of her time around these elderly ‘uncles’ and ‘aunts’. Even her schooling was taken care of by a local retired teacher.
By junior high, the mixture of constant attention-bordering-on-coddling, separation from people her own age, and watching the people around her move out or pass away, Aika became a sweet but sort of strange and morbid child. And at the same time, she developed a kind of ‘Disney Princess’ syndrome, wanting to leave the island at the first opportunity. And to be treated as an adult. Mostly the latter. Her rebellion was sudden and swift. On a trip off the island to the nearby town, Honjo, she visited the school, locked herself in the bathroom, and refused to come out until she was allowed to attend it.
Her parents relented. Aika’s new school meant braving a two-hour ferry ride to and from the island every morning and afternoon. That mean arriving to school late and leaving early- she could really only ever see her friends during their brief lunch periods, and dating was near-impossible. Which was unfortunate, because with her new school, Aika started having raging crushes on some of her classmates. A lot of her classmates, actually. Sometimes multiple at the same time- and all girls. The limitations, however, provided more of a challenge for the teen. With some hormone-driven creativity, she found ways around the restrictions - inviting friends for ‘sleep overs’, accidentally missing the ferry and being ‘forced’ to spend a night at a girlfriend’s house. Her last few years at school were a cocktail of frustration at being coddled at home, and the freedom of her myriad of crushes and short-lived, mostly-secret relationships.
In her senior year at high school, Aika came out publicly as ‘gay as heck’ to her classmates. The reception, in a small, rural, conservative town was… not too warm. She lost friends, got in a few fights, classmates’ older parents would look at her sideways on the street. It was enough to push her to want to move even further away.
Before graduation, instead of the relatively nearby Saitama-based university, she applied and nailed a spot at the university of her girlfriend at the time. On a whim, she admitted herself to said girlfriend’s major – Sports and Health Education. But without the support of her extended ‘family’, she struggled through the first few years. Even more so when she broke up with her then-girlfriend. It was then that she went into the solace of knitting, and she found that hobbies like tarot and crystal healing helped her make the odd, fringe kind of friends that didn’t judge her for her preferences. It took until her sophomore year, but she eventually settled. She was still a bit out-of-place, but she learned from her past that all it really took for her was to charm the pants off people – mostly by smiling a lot – to get by. And to learn to fight, because Kyoto was still plenty conservative and she was still plenty gay.
After graduation, she worked a few jobs teaching. Her sunny demeanour, good grades, and young age meant she was generally liked if she wasn’t stared at funny, and with a bit of pushing she managed to get a pretty sterling recommendation letter from her boss. Working at Fukui was the next ‘step up’ for her, the chance to meet new people from all across the world and move to somewhere a bit less conservative.
