MADE BY ★MEULK OF THQ | Hinata walked into the used game store with a swagger and a sense of purpose. She had on her cardigan, cami, and jeans. No school or uniform today; her schedule was all planned cleared up and planed out for the day. More importantly, she wore a sense of confidence and a glint in her eye. And she had a most peculiar accessory under her arm, opposite her bag. It was an arcade stick. The stick was very clearly a custom job. The base was white with the buttons and ball top in transparent pink. It also showed off art of the Final Fight and Street Fighter character Poison. Aside from the looks, it had Sanwa parts, quality arcade parts used in actual cabs. It was the stuff competitive fighting game players often sweared upon. Clearly, Hinata was here to rumble. If the line full of other folks with controllers and sticks didn’t make it clear, the posters in and outside of the building did. There was a fighting game tournament about to go down. It was a relatively mall, local affair, but it was important for two reasons. One, major titles not getting arcade versions was killing the arcade centered scene, and thus this was the city’s Fighting Game Community was rebuilding. Second, it was Hinata’s first time playing locally outside of Osaka. A new scene, new opponents, a new start. The thought filled her with excitement. It also made her worry. Maybe she’d lose her first match. Or go 0-3 and prove herself a fraud. Maybe she’d embarrass herself on stream. Maybe the Fukui scene was full of creeps. She was scared, sure, but she also knew she couldn’t let anybody or anything get to her and that she couldn’t let anybody see her sweat. A strong player would capitalize on the smallest sign of of weakness. While the place was technically still doing normal business, a large section of the place was basically being cornered off and reserved for the event. New and old console set ups were already up and running , and even a fair share of arcade machines were present anyway. Some casual matches were already being played, be it for funsies or last minute practice. The floor was pretty noisey right from the outset and there was already a funky odor spread all around. But would you really expect anything different, especially with Smash players around? A few cameras were already set up and there was a table where two commentators sat, ready. Even the locals got streamed nowadays Soon enough, Hinata had sluggishly made it to the front of the line. She greeted the organizer with a cheerful smile and immediately went on to fill out the entry form. She signed up for three separate games, the schedules luckily turned out to not conflict with each-other. This might have looked bold at first glance, but was actually so if she flubbed her early matches, she’d still get to play plenty. With her name confirmed in the brackets, Hinanta was ready to wander off further into the bustling game store. She had a little bit of time to dilly dally, but the festivities would be starting soon enough.
