Though Yumeko was not technically a part of the Kitamura family, and thus not obligated in any way, shape, or form, to follow their traditions. Nor was she particularly fond of formality (though she could follow along at for a little while) or an avid consumer of tea (once every few days, not daily). Still, she found some practicality in the practice of inviting neighbors, or in this case, roommates, over for tea - while perhaps forced, it cut through any potential awkwardness of meeting someone for the first time. Not that she did not get to meet her roommate, one Nakai Sora, previously. Due to differing schedules and different class locations, the most interaction that they had was small talk in the hallways. Thus, to even get the invitation to her roommate, she had to write a note and slip it beneath her door the day prior. To Nakai Sora-san, my esteemed roommate, Tomorrow, Saturday, after classes, I shall be preparing some tea and snacks in the common area of our dormitory, and I would like to extend an invitation to you to join me. We shall be in proximity for a year, and perhaps more, and I believe it would be a good opportunity to get to know each other. I look forward to be able to converse with you properly, - Nakano Yumeko. As Yumeko started to steep the tea, a simple but still quality black tea, she mused over how she had written and rewritten such a short note. It was a matter of how she wanted to present herself - it was in a way still a first impression. First drafts were excessively formal, but even after many revisions, Yumeko couldn't find herself to be any more laconic than the final iteration she went with. Nor was there any guarantee that Nakai-san would accept. With her grey eyes useless, Yumeko leaned in over her teapot to smell how much the tea had brewed and was satisfied, putting out and disposing of the tea leaves. Nearby was the tea tray with two oriental tea cups juxtaposed with a western-styled tiered serving platter laden with various Danishes, cookies, and even a few chocolates. They were gifts from her cousins who ran a bake store and a candy shop, initially intended for Yumeko's consumption alone, so if Nakai-san found herself unable to attend, the writer felt no guilt in eating it all. Carefully, Yumeko picked up the heavy trade and made her way into the common area of her dorm room, a luxury afforded by the fact that the dorms were originally two-bedroom apartments. She shuffled slowly and carefully, in part to keep her balance and in part to make sure she did not trip over anything unexpected. An uneventful trip later, she set down the tea tray on the coffee table in front of the couch and took a seat. "Ooof...well. Let's see how this goes." Yumeko said to an empty room - or at least one she could tell was empty. Leaning forward, she pour herself a cup of tea and took a sip, nodding in satisfaction before picking up her tablet and headphones. Unsurprisingly, the Kitamura family had been very chatty over LINE, and she let the tablet dictate to her her family's words as she waited. Sora Nakai | #WORDS | NOTES: |
