It took a lot of painstaking and mind-bogglingly slow effort, but Yumeko found the book she was looking for. It was not exactly somewhere deep in the school's library, but it was a book that had no braille on it at all; the tiny author was forced to feel for the indentations made on the hard covers to ensure she found that right one. The staff seemed to be indisposed, and asking for Hara's help was out of the question. In fact, it was for Hara's sake that Yumeko searched for a book that she could not read - she wanted to surprise Hara with a different book to read the next time they got together. Eagerly, Yumeko clutched her prize to her chest with one arm as her navigated towards the front desk. In her other hand was a normal pathfinding cane - at the request of the staff, she had left her metal cane at home to prevent it from scuffing the floor too much. Still, it made soft thumps as the end of it tapped against the bookshelves which the novelist took note of until she heard the sound of footsteps starting to overtake it. That was the most annoying part of being in the library - the proximity of the shelves caused any noises, no matter how slight, to bounce around, disorienting her. Yumeko slowed her pace, trying to suss out the source of the footsteps while keeping track of where the end of the bookshelf was. She could feel the end of her cane hit the bottom of the bookshelf to her left and swept the cane to her right, expecting the next impact to be a little higher. And indeed there was another impact, but not against something hard. But not soft either. The sound wasn't that of plastic against wood either but rather... "Oh, my apologies," Yumeko said softly, trying to look in the general direction to her right. "I didn't notice you there." haruko clarkson | #WORDS | NOTES: |
