Ran NakanoFemale Thirty Faculty Writing Teacher Year Book Club Supervisor M E N T E E / M A T C H M A K I N G
Ran's not the kind of woman you'd expect to be a matchmaker. But she writes romance novels... and she has a few regrets about her own lack of dating. And she has an absolutely wonderful sense for when her students take interest in other girls. Probably it's because she also has a sixth sense for when others are staring at her breasts. Though she's rather observant of those sorts of things anyways.
And of course, her Year Book Supervisor duties puts her in contact with more students than just her writing class students. And her collegues aren't immune to it either.
She'll be as discrete or blunt as she feels it is, but she never lies. Half-truths or keeping a few facts discrete are fair game, however. And even more than finding students their loves, she's willing to give others a push. Naturally, she's quite good at it. So if you want Ran to give your favorite couple a bit of a push, you only need ask.
Of course, Ran may not seem like it, but she also makes a wonderful mentor. Maybe your student character has hit their nadir, or just are crushed in general. Maybe they're naive and need a more worldly advisor. Maybe they just want to absorb what they can from their teacher. She'll teach them (well, she already does, but moreso) and provide a bit of nurturing if needed. She's not the type to coddle people, and she'll focus more on getting them to grow. But she tries to help the whole package.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - F R I E N D S For students, as said before, Ran can be an excellent mentor, and she looks out for her students. She treats her students fairly, though. She believes in professionalism, so don't expect any horizontal relationship until your graduate. Until then, the closest you can get is her mentee, or just a student on good terms with her. Still, Ran's also more than happy to be your go-to girl for fulfilling any 'faculty needs to be involved' so long as it makes sense. Just remember that Ran cares about the rules, and she will scrutinize it. And she will make sure you kids aren't serving alcohol at your school party.
For faculty members, she's pretty easy to get along with, pretty trusting. She has a tendency to be a bit prying though. Like her students, she'll bend over backwards for you to help, even if she seems a bit distant. And don't think for a second she won't play matchmaker with her collegues.
She's not super outgoing, but she feels good comradeire with the faculty. Making friends with her is pretty easy though. She doesn't instantly go crazy for new friends, but she reliably gets closer once she does. And perhaps quicker than you'd expect someone of her personality.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - E N E M I E S Ran is the strict teacher who does it for her students own good. Teenagers being teenagers, they might see her as that overly strict, no fun jerkface teacher, whom making any deal to supervisor your little party is a devil's bargain for ensured boredom. While Ran's punishments tend to be fair, she does give increased scrutiny to rulebreakers, along with a bit of teasing that might seem to be mockery.
With anyone else, Ran's first instinct will be to ignore them. Really, pay as little attention as she can afford. She doesn't have anything to prove, but if she gets into a forced conversation, she'll keep in as quick as possible, though a quip isn't impossible. Don't expect her to try to make amends unless she realizes she's the one at fault for things going pear shaped, or unless you make the first move.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - L O V E R
Ran's been in a few relationships before, though her one biggest regret is that she didn't get into any relationships until college. There were, after all, more prospects in her own days as a student at Fukui twenty billion years ago. It's what fuels much of her matchmaking thing.
For a matchmaker though, she's rather dense about her own feelings, and is oblivious to others. It'll take some persistence, or a willingness to be blunt to break through to her. Or barring that, someone willing to help.
Alternatively, if she realizes first, she'll probably look for someone else to help her fess up.
A relationship with Ran is all about show, not tell. In other words, she might avoid PDA at school out of professionalism, beyond maybe a quick peck on the cheek in less crowded places, but she'll do just about anything to make her lover happy, and she's a bit more loose with it off the clock.

Well she may get along well with Theora who tends to go around pairing off girls as well, though she makes up imaginary relationships and then writes plays about them. They've probably encountered each other before due to Theora having inserted herself into every sort of class that had any little thing to do with theater and writing plays is a favorite pastime of hers. She also tends to stare at everyone for varieties of reasons.
Fue could use a mentor though I'm not sure she'd have any real contact with Ran outside of core classes. Fue is going down the photography track with a focus on food. She's deep in her shell and isn't going to come out of it by choice. She's also a bundle of doubt and anxiety so she's not the happiest teenager around. She seems more inclined to talk with teachers and faculty because she is less able to avoid hose when she needs to do something or get it done. Perhaps the yearbook needs another photographer, who knows.

"IM SUING CUPID" (ran/cress)
hello there cupid im here to get shot. haha okay seriously, you knew this was coming! probably? whatever. anyway, cress is your neighborhood messy VP, and ran has a thing for trying to help people. it's perfect? well! i don't think that cress would come across like she has a crush on anyone in particular, (future plots nonwithstanding) but i also think it would be totally awesome (and hilarious) if a sort of misunderstanding happened where ran tried to pair cress and some other faculty volunteer up together. THAT'S A PLOT FOR ANOTHER DAY THOUGH. and for someone to volunteer as a guinea pig. for now i think that the two could have an interesting sort of friendship?? while cress would likely find her perfectly acceptable, ran seems to be Good at people and would probably notice that, you know, she's dealing with someone who's kind of a mess here. so it could be a lighthearted thing where ran keeps suggesting to cress things to Do or people to see or stuff and cress is just kind of like. uhh... okay i'll do it if it matters to you but i don't get it? or it oculd be more of ran continually prying at cress until some heavy backstory stuff comes out, i dunno! regardless of how different they are i do think cress would end up valuing ran as a friend (they seem like they would get along, and ran is talented at stuff that cress has No Talent with eg: writing) so! cress would have some things to ask her about in their free time outside of work, and would probably end up at least respecting her from that. also ran has my heart, etc this is a jumbled mess of thoughts but REGARDLESS!! there u go

@fue
Probably should be a bit more clear. Ran's not a compulsive matchmaker, more someone who's pretty deliberate about it. She might figure it out Theora's matchmaking habits from her work, if Ran puts two and two together. She'd probably try to help refine her abilities, and possibly cooperate with matchmaking eventually.
Would Fue be interested in the yearbook club? Ran supervises it (OOC, it was meant as a way to increase the number of students she'd have contact with). She could help take pictures of the culinary art stuff. But anyways, they seem like they'd get along, since Ran's even keeled. But yeah, she could try to be it. Just general self-confidence issues, or is there something more complex?
@cress
Like I said, Ran's not super compulsive with matchmaking, but she could possibly jump the gun if she thinks Cress could have a steady relationship with catharsis.
She'd probably focus more on finding her things to do though, since Cress seems like she'd have issues with relationships, though she might break the rule in the case of exceptional compatibility. And she'd probably pry a bit, but she'd become more and more careful as time went on and she learned more. And her solutions would more drift towards finding Cress a professional therapist than romance therapy, a day at the spa, or even binge watching Looney Toons on a Saturday. But yeah, could definitely be fun. I'll talk to you later about it over Discord.

Theora is in no way deliberate. She has ideas and then she acts on her ideas very suddenly. The impulse control is lacking and her personality as the Director keeps her from really looking at herself. A fair amount of her development needs to be more introspective, not exactly knocking her down a peg but certainly not being overconfident to a fault. Ran seems like she's actively trying to help people whereas Theora is only interested in helping herself and if other people benefit then that's great too.
Fue does not like standing out. She would not volunteer for any kind of club but she could easily be volunteered or be sent off to the club to make up for one of her several missed assignments. She gets 'sick' whenever a partner or group assignment is assigned. So there are a fair number of those. She does not believe that she stands out in any way and so she has to be perfect with her work to make up for it. It hasn't come up yet but her pictures tend to come off as too sterile and manufactured to the point of unnatural.

I think either could be shown in their writing sample. Both sound like they have some potential to work with, and I'd be happy to have a thread with whichever one you want to set up with first, and my basic idea is similar with both. Either she connects the dots with the pairings with Theora, or she's curious about Fue. Judging by what you said about her pictures, I'd imagine that Fue's work would be grammatically and structurally superb, but perhaps lacking in inspiration for the plot and whatnot.
So how does that sound?

Gotta be honest, not entirely sure I follow what you mean there. But I'd be quite keen to have Ran meet Fue. If there's some way I could pull her into a more broad social circle, it would certainly help me open her up to more thread possibilities and getting drawn into the Year Book committee would probably do that.

Ah, the idea was for Ran to first draw some conclusions based on their writing assignment, possibly calling Fue up after class.
